Position Summary
We are seeking an experienced and detail-oriented Senior Accounts person to manage the accounting and payroll functions across multiple companies within the group in the latest version of Sage. This role will ensure accurate financial reporting, payroll compliance, and adherence to VAT regulations, including the Tour Operators Margin Scheme (TOMS). Training on TOMS can be provided. This is a progressive role.
The ideal candidate will have strong multi-entity accounting experience, payroll expertise, and VAT compliance and a can-do attitude. The ability to work to deadlines as an individual, create a structure to ensure the finance department delivers, and to motivate the finance team members to do the same.
Key Responsibilities of the Team
- Accounting & Finance (Multi-Entity)
- Prepare, produce full-cycle accounting for multiple companies within the group.
- Maintain general ledgers, including journal entries, accruals, prepayments, and adjustments.
- Prepare monthly, quarterly, and annual financial statements for each entity.
- Perform intercompany reconciliations and manage intercompany transactions.
- Financial Reporting
- Produce monthly and yearly financial reports.
- Analyse profit, costs, and revenue.
- Cash Flow Management
- Create weekly and monthly cashflows.
- Monitor company cash flow.
- Ensure enough funds for operations.
- Cost Control
- Identify ways to reduce expenses.
- Improve financial efficiency.
- Compliance & Risk Management
- Ensure financial activities follow regulations and accounting standards.
- Complete balance sheet reconciliations and resolve discrepancies.
- Support consolidated financial reporting.
- Assist with budgeting, forecasting, and financial analysis.
- Ensure compliance with UK accounting standards and statutory requirements.
- Support internal and external audit processes.
- Maintain strong financial controls across all entities.
- Payroll Management
- Manage and process end-to-end payroll across multiple companies.
- Ensure accurate calculation of salaries, pensions, statutory payments, and deductions.
- Ensure compliance with HMRC payroll regulations and RTI submissions.
- Maintain payroll records and confidentiality.
- Reconcile payroll reports with the general ledger.
- Liaise with HR regarding starters, leavers, and payroll changes.
- VAT & Tour Operators Margin Scheme (TOMS)
- Prepare and submit VAT/TOMS returns.
- Calculate TOMS margins and maintain accurate supporting documentation.
- Reconcile VAT accounts and investigate discrepancies.
- Support HMRC audits and VAT inspections where required.
- Ensure correct VAT treatment of travel-related transactions across multiple entities.
Qualifications
- ACCA, CIMA, ACA qualified or part-qualified (or equivalent experience).
- Minimum 5+ years accounting experience, preferably in a multi-company environment.
- Proven experience managing payroll independently.
- Strong knowledge of UK VAT regulations.
- Experience with intercompany accounting and reconciliations.
- Strong Excel and accounting software skills.
- Excellent attention to detail and accuracy.
- Strong organisational and time management skills.
- Ability to work independently and manage multiple priorities and colleagues.
