About the role:
To operate Clamp and/or Fork Lift Truck in a safe and compliant manner, to keep the Site\’s operation running smoothly, efficiently and environmentally friendly at all times. To cover any other operational role as required by management.
Duties and Responsibilities:
- Operate the machinery as required, to maintain the safe and efficient operation of the site at all times.
- Ensuring that machinery is maintained to required standards, including daily & weekly checks, refueling, lubrication and greasing, and that defects and breakdowns are promptly recorded and reported.
- Record daily movements of Bale weights and lengths on CRL paperwork, to then be handed back to Shift Supervisor at the end of the shift.
- Load Bales onto trailers for transporting to the dock quayside for loading vessels.
- Maintain a safe working environment throughout your activities, including keeping working area tidy and access to walkways and emergency exits clear.
- Immediately report: any contamination or non-conforming wastes delivered to site; accidents, incidents, and near misses; environmental hazards; health & safety breaches to the Level 1 Supervisor or appropriate Manager.
- Ensure appropriate safety equipment and PPE is used at all times.
- Undertake any training necessary to perform other tasks including operation of other plant and equipment.
- Ensure you meet Manual Handling requirements to assist in waste management activities.
- Assist other operatives in their roles upon request and when authorised by your Supervisor.
- Represent the Company in the public eye and behave in an appropriate and professional manner.
- Comply with all Health, Safety, HR and Environmental policies and procedures.

About you:
- Ability to safely operate machinery and equipment.
- Basic mechanical knowledge for routine maintenance, including checks, refueling, lubrication, and greasing.
- Strong attention to detail for recording and reporting bale weights, defects, and breakdowns.
- Awareness of health and safety regulations, including PPE usage and emergency procedures.
- Ability to work effectively within a team and assist colleagues when required.
- Good communication skills to report issues, incidents, and hazards promptly.
- Physical fitness to meet manual handling requirements.
- Willingness to undertake necessary training for additional tasks and equipment operation.
- Previous experience working in a waste management, recycling, or industrial environment.
Desirable
- Experience loading and unloading trailers or working with bale materials.
- Knowledge of environmental compliance and contamination prevention.
