Job Title: Banksman / Traffic Controller
Location: Ridham Dock Road, Sittingbourne, Kent, ME9 8SR
Salary: £14.63 per hour (plus KPI bonus)
Job Type: Permanent / Full time
Working Hours: Monday – Friday 06:00 – 18:00
About Us
Countrystyle Recycling are proud to operate the largest independent fleet of modern waste management vehicles in Kent, London and the South East. Our fleet vehicles include dustcarts, skip trucks, hook loaders and bulk haulage lorries.
About The Role
The Traffic Controller will be responsible for directing the movement and loading/unloading of lorries and directing the movement of mobile plant. The Traffic Controller will also control the movements of other vehicle movements and pedestrians.
Responsibilities
- Ensure the organisation meets the legal requirements when reversing a vehicle
- Reduce the number and/or cost of accidents caused by reversing vehicles
- Minimise the amount of reversing and be aware of the dangers caused when reversing
- Use practical techniques and hand signals to assist drivers in all manoeuvres
- Will need to use a clear, agreed system of signalling.
- Will need to be visible to drivers at all times.
- Will need to stand in a safe position, from which to guide all vehicles without being in the way
- Will wear hi visible clothing, such as reflective trousers /shirt/coat, and ensure that any signals are clearly seen.
- Be fully compliant with PPE requirements of the site
- Have clear and effective use of the 2-way radio. Communication skills are essential.
- Report to the Operations Manager and Shift Supervisors on any near miss incidents involving vehicle movements in the yard.
- Comply with all Health, Safety, HR and Environmental policies and procedures.
- Ensure no bins/skips get dropped in the main yard.
- Ensure the one-way system and speed limits are obeyed at all times.
- Control the holding bays and safe parking of all vehicles on site.
- Control the ques at the weighbridge/drive in the peak times.
- Directing deliveries to relevant departments
- Ensure all personnel are complying with all site PPE requirements
- Ensure drivers do not leave their vehicles unattended within an undesignated parking area
- Ensure pedestrian routes are adhered to and under no circumstances people crossing the yard as a cut through
- The above list is not exhaustive, and the post holder will be required to undertake such tasks as may reasonably be expected within the scope and grading of the post. Job descriptions are regularly reviewed to ensure they are an accurate representation of the post.
- Staff have a duty to take care of their own health and safety and that of others who may be affected by their actions at work.
- Staff must co-operate, report unsafe conditions and comply with the company management systems and safe systems of work as well as co-workers to help everyone meet their legal requirements.
