The Duty Manager is responsible for the smooth day‑to‑day operation of The Hope & Anchor. The role involves leading the team on shift, working full time, delivering excellent customer service, and ensuring high standards of service, cleanliness, and compliance across the business. This is a hands‑on role suited to someone confident managing busy services and acting as the senior point of contact on duty.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Operations & Service
    • Take responsibility for the operation of The Hope & Anchor during allocated shifts
    • Deliver consistently high standards of customer service
    • Oversee food and drink service to ensure quality, speed, and consistency
    • Handle customer feedback and complaints professionally and efficiently
    • Open and close the premises in line with company procedures
  • Team Leadership
    • Lead, motivate, and supervise team members on shift
    • Allocate duties, manage breaks, and ensure effective shift coverage
    • Support training, onboarding, and development of staff
    • Ensure adherence to company policies and service standards
  • Health, Safety & Compliance
    • Ensure compliance with health & safety, food hygiene, and licensing regulations
    • Enforce Challenge 25 and responsible alcohol service
    • Complete required checks, logs, and incident reports
    • Act as the responsible manager on duty during incidents or emergencies
  • Stock & Cash Control
    • Oversee cash handling, tills, and end‑of‑shift procedures
    • Monitor stock levels and report shortages or issues
    • Support stock deliveries and stock rotation where required
  • Standards & Presentation
    • Maintain high standards of cleanliness and presentation throughout the venue
    • Ensure The Hope & Anchor presents a welcoming, professional environment at all times

Skills & Experience

Essential

  • Previous supervisory or management experience in hospitality
  • Strong leadership and communication skills
  • Excellent customer service focus
  • Ability to work in a fast‑paced environment
  • Flexibility to work evenings, weekends, and bank holidays

Desirable

  • Personal Licence holder (or willingness to obtain)
  • Knowledge of food safety and health & safety standards
