Join our team and embark on an exciting career journey as an MSK Consultant Radiologist at The Countess of Chester Hospital. The Radiology Directorate is part of the Diagnostic and Clinical Support Services Division, providing a diagnostic imaging service to inpatients and outpatient services across two sites: Countess of Chester Hospital and Ellesmere Port Hospital. The department also provides a GP direct access service for plain film, fluoroscopy, ultrasound, CT, and MRI.
The Trust is the South of Mersey Vascular centre (SMart Centre), providing a networked vascular service for Chester, Warrington, and Wirral patients. The Countess of Chester Hospital has consistently invested in the Radiology department, ensuring that the environment and equipment meet the needs of a modern, changing diagnostic service. Recent developments include a replacement Interventional Radiology suite with built-in floor space for future expansion and a new state-of-the-art cardiac CT scanner.
The Countess of Chester site has 3 CT scanners (1 cardiac scanner) and 2 1.5T MRI scanners, along with a suite of ultrasound scanners. The general department is fully digital, including wireless portable equipment. The department performs approximately 15,500 MRI scans, 30,000 CT scans, 2,000 Interventional procedures, and 31,000 ultrasound scans per year.
The successful candidate will be expected to integrate into the team of existing Consultants to provide a complete diagnostic service, including the reporting of MSK, CT, MRI, ultrasound, and plain films. This is a full-time position, but candidates wishing to work part-time or in a job share are encouraged to apply. If a part-time or job share person is appointed, modification of the job content will be discussed with the appointee on a personal basis to meet the needs of the service.
The Trust’s services are provided from three locations: The Countess of Chester Hospital, providing 473 general and acute beds; Ellesmere Port Hospital, providing 60 beds as a rehabilitation, intermediate, and outpatient facility; and Tarporley War Memorial Hospital, a base for community services serving the local rural population. The Countess of Chester Hospital NHS Foundation Trust employs 5,964 staff to provide care and treatment to a population of over 400,000 people living in Chester and West Cheshire, which includes Ellesmere Port and Neston as well as the Deeside area of Flintshire. The Trust works collaboratively within the wider Cheshire and Merseyside Integrated Care System and closely with the Betsi Cadwaladr University Health Board due to its location on the border with North Wales, treating patients from England and some parts of Wales.
