Consultant in Elderly Medicine
Working Full Time: 10 Sessions per week
Applications are invited for a substantive post for the position of Consultant in Elderly Medicine.
The post will support an already successful acute geriatrics team based within the Countess of Chester Hospital NHS Foundation Trust and will involve clinical care, education and service development in geriatric medicine.
Responsibilities
- Regular ward rounds on the inpatient frailty ward, supporting junior doctors and the multidisciplinary team; attend daily MDTs; named consultant for up to 14 inpatients plus outliers (approximately 300‑350 patient reviews per month).
- Run a general elderly clinic and a subspecialty clinic (flexible to the candidate’s interest in movement disorders, falls, stroke or community); expect about 8 new‑patient appointments and 32 reviews per month in a weekly 3‑hour clinic.
- Provide “front door” acute geriatrician sessions, supporting the emergency department, rapid response team and acute physicians with specialist in‑reach advice for frail elderly patients in the acute setting.
- Supervise junior doctors.
- Attend and contribute to speciality and departmental meetings.
