Paediatric Liaison Nurse in Chester

Working Part time : 22.5 hours per week

We are excited to announce an opportunity for a skilled and dedicated Nurse to fulfil the role of the Paediatric Liaison Nurse. This pivotal role plays a key part in the strategic development and operational delivery of safeguarding initiatives across The Countess of Chester Hospital Trust.

The post holder will work to establish and promote effective referral pathways and communication between hospital services, including the Countess of Chester, Health Visitors, School Nurses, Social Care and other community professionals as needed. Acting as a professional resource, the role will facilitate strong links between acute, community, and primary care services, ensuring seamless communication across wards, outpatients, A&E, and maternity departments.

The post holder will collaborate closely with the Named Professionals and Safeguarding Children team, providing expert guidance on safeguarding children. They will ensure the safety and welfare of children, young people, and unborn children who interact with the Trust’s services, including those of adult patients where safeguarding concerns are identified. This work will be in line with the Department of Health’s 'Working Together to Safeguard Children' (2023), the Laming Enquiry, the National Service Framework for Children, and other relevant national standards and recommendations

Responsibilities

• Safeguarding & Liaison: Ensuring other organisations are made aware of patient admissions in the best interests of the child.
• Information Management: Coordinating and securely managing the transfer, storage, and analysis of safeguarding-related information from the acute Trust to community services.
• Collaboration & Communication: Working across professional and organisational boundaries to strengthen safeguarding practices, maintain effective relationships, and enhance information sharing between services.
• Training & Development: Identifying staff training needs, delivering education on safeguarding and domestic abuse, and participating in local and national safeguarding initiatives.
• Governance & Compliance: Supporting policy implementation, attending meetings, ensuring adherence to safeguarding procedures, and contributing to service improvements and clinical governance.

The role requires a high level of expertise in safeguarding, strong teamwork, and a proactive approach to ensuring the well-being of children, young people, and families.

The Trust’s services are provided from three locations:

• The Countess of Chester Hospital: providing 473 general and acute beds.
• Ellesmere Port Hospital: providing 60 beds as a rehabilitation, intermediate and outpatient facility.
• Tarporley War Memorial Hospital: a base for community services which serve the local rural population.
