This is a full-time Registered Nurse role (37.5 hours per week) with experience of, or strong interest in, Occupational Health practice. It is a clinic nurse role working within a small nurse-led service comprising Specialist Occupational Health Nurse Practitioners. The post holder will work independently in clinics to assess staff fitness for work, advise on infection prevention and control and other matters that affect staff health and safety.
The role requires the ability to assess risk within a defined framework, work calmly and methodically under pressure, and engage with distressed persons. Screening, venepuncture and immunisation skills are required. Induction and ongoing support will be provided through access to a senior or more experienced OH nurse. The ability to manage own workload and adapt to changing priorities is necessary to ensure the service remains agile and responsive to the Trust's People Services needs.
Responsibilities:
- Pre-placement and pre-employment assessment of fitness for work for prospective employees and workers.
- Identify immunisation and immunity screening standards required for defined staff roles.
- Perform venepuncture, vaccinations, swabbing and immunisations as part of occupational health activities.
- Contribute to mass vaccination programmes (e.g., flu campaigns).
- Post-exposure infection risk assessment.
- Health surveillance activities for targeted groups of workers.
- Support health and wellbeing initiatives and signpost staff to resources.
- Respond to individual needs for mental health first aid or other in-the-moment support.
- Work flexibly during evenings, nights or weekends on occasion.
