NDES – Digital Forensic Investigator – Counter Terrorism Policing SO15

The starting salary is ÂŁ53,459, which includes allowances totalling ÂŁ2,928.

The salary is broken down as ÂŁ50,531 basic salary, which will increase annually until you reach the top of the scale ÂŁ55,103 Plus, a location allowance of ÂŁ1,928 and a non-pensionable allowance of ÂŁ1,000.

Want to work on some of the most important and high-profile investigations at the heart of Counter Terrorism Policing (CTP)? This is where you need to be. As a Digital Forensic Investigator in our team, you’ll put your skills to work where it matters most.

Join us, and you’ll be part of a team providing key digital forensics to CTP in London and beyond. Your main task will involve using established computer forensic techniques to identify relevant data or files. You’ll then add context to how that data was created or obtained, by whom and when. Once you have this information, you will prepare and present it in technical evidential reports or statements. You’ll also extract specific data for parallel viewing by Digital Media Assessment professionals.

It’s a varied role where you never know what you’ll be working on next. You could be using specialist tools and training to make forensically sound copies of digital devices and then analysing the contents. Or you might be detailing how a computer or mobile device was configured, what software was used, what documents pictures or videos were created, what websites were visited, and what emails were sent and received.

Sound theoretical knowledge and practical experience of digital forensics is therefore essential, but that’s not all. You’ll also need to work methodically, have confidence in your accreditation or experience, and be comfortable presenting your work at court. Above all, you’ll be as determined as we are to protect the UK. For you, that means keeping an eye on new technology, its use and how we could stay ahead of advances to keep Londoners, and the wider country, safe.

Vetting
This post requires access to the most sensitive intelligence material on a daily basis. Applicants must hold or be prepared to undergo National Security Vetting (NSV) Developed Vetting (DV) level before taking up the post.

Additionally, this material is of particular sensitivity to the UK and its distribution must be restricted to UK nationals. In approved circumstances dual nationals (of which one element is British) may also be granted access. However, in the event that potential conflicts of interest cannot be managed the post holder will not be able to see the intelligence material and will not be able to perform their duties. For the purpose of safeguarding national security and in line with Cabinet Office Policy, supported by Section 82(2) to (4) of the Police Reform Act (2002), applicants who do not hold or acquire Security Check (enhanced) (SC(e)) OR Developed Vetting (DV) clearance and meet the nationality requirements cannot be offered the post.
