Technical Lead Officer - Police Staff - Forensic Management - Counter Terrorism Policing Wales in Bridgend

An exciting opportunity has arisen within Counter Terrorism Policing Wales (CTPW) for a Technical Lead Officer to join the dynamic and evolving area of Forensic Management within the Counter Terrorism Investigations Team in Wales. The successful candidate will play a key role in supporting the UK Counter Terrorism Network through the effective co-ordination of CTPW activity, as tasked in support of the UK’s Counter-Terrorism Strategy, the National Police Counter Terrorism and Extremism Control Strategy and Regional Control Strategy with the aim of deterring, detecting and disrupting acts of terrorism and extremism.

As part of the CTPW Forensic Management Team, the post holder will work closely with the CTP West Midlands ISO Management Team, supporting accreditation, quality assurance and compliance across several forensic disciplines, with a particular focus on the Forensic Management Team. The successful candidate will be responsible for:

• Providing oversight of quality assurance, quality control and continuous improvement activities across multiple forensic disciplines.
• Supporting the attainment and ongoing maintenance of ISO/IEC 17020 accreditation and compliance with the Forensic Science Regulators Code of Practice through UKAS assessments, ensuring adherence to national standards, policies and best practice.
• Working collaboratively with the ISO Lead, FMT Supervisor and wider FMT Team to promote a consistent, compliant and effective approach to accreditation and quality management.
• Contributing to UKAS assessment projects and extension-to-scope activities across forensic disciplines.
• Maintaining professional knowledge of relevant standards and guidance including ISO/IEC 17020 and 17025, the Forensic Science Regulator’s Code of Practice and ILAC-G19.

Training for this role will involve attendance on a range of courses across the UK, which may last up to one week at a time. The position also requires travel throughout Wales, and on occasion, across the UK. As such, regular periods away from home can be an inherent part of the role, and applicants must be able to accommodate this requirement.

Due to the nature of the role, the successful candidate will also be required to work extended hours during periods of high demand, undertake ad-hoc weekend working, and be willing to travel to CTP West Midlands based in Birmingham on a regular basis and participate in an on-call rota.

This role is based in Bridgend. This post requires the successful candidate to successfully complete vetting to MV/SC Level as well as Developed Vetting (DV). The post will also require the successful completion of an additional security induction process, part of which requires pre-screening checks of nationality and foreign connections. It must be stressed that this is in addition to Force Management Vetting. Candidates must achieve both clearances to take up this post.

Employment within Counter Terrorism Policing requires applicants for the role to undertake a further security induction for which British citizenship is required. Failure to hold citizenship would preclude persons from applying for these positions.
