Requirements

  • Good experience of network and infrastructure monitoring tools.
  • Experience of VOIP and video conferencing.
  • Experience of converged infrastructure and network virtualisation.
  • Experience of network design and documentation.
  • Experience of load balancer technologies.
  • Experience of network hardening and security best practice.
  • Experience of PKI and encryption technologies.
  • Experience of failover testing, resilience and redundancy methodology.
  • Experience of working within an ITIL service environment, working to defined metrics and SLAs.
  • Preferred Cisco CCNP equivalent qualification.

Responsibilities

  • Provide technical support for national infrastructure relating to BAU and projects to help ensure objectives are met in line with our priorities.
  • Focus on improving internal systems.
  • Manage, prioritise and escalate your workload appropriately.
  • Ensure adherence to required policies, standards, controls and best practice.
  • Ensure SLAs for services are met.
  • Create and maintain technical documentation so services are maintained and knowledge is shared.
  • Proactively maintain and update the infrastructure to ensure security and reliability.
  • Proactively monitor environments to help prevent issues arising.
  • Follow security procedures to comply with relevant accreditation, procedures and guidance.
  • Support and mentor other team members to help build a strong support service.

We are Counter Terrorism Policing HQ, and our Customer Service Centre in Birmingham supports national police services 24/7. As our centre expands through substantial investment, our team is growing, and we are looking for a Senior Network Engineer to join a highly skilled technical team working on incidents, problems and changes in an ITIL-aligned environment. This is an office-based role with occasional home-working options, and our shift structure allows compressed hours over a 4-day week. We offer a competitive salary from £61,410, plus allowances, along with benefits including a company pension and store discount.
