Are you a motivated individual with a passion for the local environment in relation to climate change and net-zero, biodiversity and local nature recovery and waste and resources management? We have an exciting career graded position within the Environment Service. We are looking for a dedicated individual to undertake a career graded opportunity to support the Council in safeguarding the environment across the Isles of Scilly.

This is an exciting opportunity to grow and develop as a key member of the Environment Services team, where you will support the delivery of a wide variety of services in relation to climate change and net zero, biodiversity and nature recovery and waste and resources management. This is a career graded post subject to meeting the post objectives including the requisite knowledge, skills and experience, the post holder will be able to progress from Grade 3 (Trainee Environment & Climate Resilience Officer) and Grade 4 (Environment & Climate Resilience Officer) through to a Grade 5.

You will work closely with the island community and external partners to support the Council's responsibilities for the Environment on a day-to-day basis. The role will include a focus on, but not be limited to, the following:

  • Supporting delivery of the Council's Climate Change Action Plan and its journey towards net-zero
  • Supporting delivery of the Council's Waste Reduction Strategy
  • Supporting the Council in relation to its enhanced duties for biodiversity and nature recovery
  • Working collaboratively with internal and external partners
  • Supporting community engagement and communications
  • Responding to enquiries from the public and stakeholders

This is a diverse role requiring excellent interpersonal skills alongside the ability to work within an operational and regulatory framework. This role will suit someone who is looking to develop a career in the Environmental sector, who enjoys working in a fast-paced environment and is ready for a new challenge. Significant training opportunities are available, including a Level 6 Apprenticeship for the right person. The post holder will gain an in-depth understanding of how the Council delivers its responsibilities for safeguarding the Environment.
