We are seeking an experienced Quantity Surveyor to support the delivery of renewable and mechanical/electrical projects across the commercial sector. The role will be responsible for the full commercial lifecycle of projects from tender stage through to final account, ensuring strong commercial control, contractual compliance, accurate reporting, and protection of project profitability. Projects are typically within the public and private commercial sectors and include technologies such as:
- Air Source Heat Pumps
- Ground Source Heat Pumps
- Solar PV
- Energy Centres
- Mechanical & Electrical installations
- Decarbonisation works
Key Responsibilities
- Pre-Construction & Tender Support
- Support commercial review of tender opportunities and bid/no-bid decisions
- Review client contracts and identify commercial risk exposure
- Manage payment terms, notices, variations, and contractual obligations
- Issue contractual notices including EOTs and compensation events where applicable
- Maintain commercial compliance throughout project delivery
- Produce commercial and insurance risk reviews
- Develop pricing schedules and cost plans
- Review BoQs/BoMs alongside technical and sales teams
- Identify commercial risks and contractual concerns
- Support commercial input into tender submissions
- Procurement & Supply Chain Management
- Produce and issue subcontractor and supplier enquiries
- Analyse quotations and ensure scope alignment
- Negotiate subcontract and supplier packages
- Support procurement strategy and package buyouts
- Prepare and place subcontract orders
- Contract & Commercial Management
- Manage applications for payment and valuations
- Maintain CVRs and project cost reporting
- Monitor forecast vs actual margins
- Track project profitability and commercial performance
- Support project teams with commercial decision-making
- Variations & Change Management
- Work closely with project management teams to identify variations early
- Price, submit, negotiate, and agree variations
- Maintain variation trackers and monitor conversion rates
- Project Close-Out
- Agree final accounts with clients
- Close subcontractor accounts
- Manage retention tracking and release
- Capture lessons learned and support continuous improvement
- Reporting & Forecasting
- Produce monthly commercial reports and CVRs
- Forecast project final account positions
- Support cashflow forecasting activities
- Report on annual revenue and profitability forecasts
- Highlight commercial risks and opportunities to management
Requirements
Essential Experience
- Previous Quantity Surveying experience within construction, M&E, or renewable energy projects
- Strong understanding of commercial project delivery
- Experience managing subcontractors and applications
- Good contractual awareness
- Strong numerical and analytical skills
- Ability to work across multiple projects simultaneously
Desirable Experience
- Experience with renewable energy or decarbonisation projects
- Knowledge of JCT and NEC contracts
- Experience in public sector projects
- Understanding of MCS or renewable compliance environments
