We are currently recruiting for a talented and highly motivated Geophysics Manager to lead our Geophysics team. This is a fantastic opportunity for an enthusiastic and passionate individual to shape the activities and direction of our growing Geophysics Department. As well as leading and developing CA's geophysical survey department, you will oversee a portfolio of geophysics projects, managing key client accounts. You will also be responsible for quality assurance of geophysics products, ensuring budgetary control and timescales.
With proven experience in managing project budgets, ensuring projects are delivered efficiently and to a high standard, you should be an effective people leader able to demonstrate excellent interpersonal skills, building strong working relationships within the team and stakeholders. The successful applicant will offer technical advice to all departments and prepare and assist with tenders, survey methodologies and offer advice on appropriate deliverables. In addition, they will help compile and monitor department budgets, conduct marketing and networking activities, and develop both new and existing clients. Developing new business partners and opportunities will be a key function of the role, as will keeping up to date with industry developments and seeking opportunities to implement these.
A full clean driving licence is essential to the role as is the membership of CIfA at MCIfA level or the ability and commitment to achieve this within the first six months in post. To assist in the development and growth of Cotswold Archaeology's new Geophysics Department, we established high-quality geophysical survey services centred on magnetometry and then expanding to resistivity, GPR, and Electromagnetic. We are actively seeking new opportunities to expand our commercial offering and attract new business, keeping abreast of the latest developments in Geophysics to ensure that CA remains at the forefront of geophysical survey developments. This is a permanent position, working for one of the largest and most respected archaeological companies in the country, offering a competitive salary and an excellent benefits package.
Responsibilities
- Develop CA's geophysical survey capability.
- Manage staff workload and coordinate with Fieldwork, Geomatics and Research teams.
- Oversee geophysical projects, ensuring projects are delivered to programme and budget and ensuring the quality of all deliverables.
- Ensure safe conduct of surveys and compliance with CA policies.
- Preparation of tenders, as well as providing tender input and advice on methodology, costings and scope.
- Advise colleagues on geophysical capability, application and integration across the company.
- Manage procurement, maintenance and calibration of equipment.
- Develop client relationships and identify business opportunities.
- Effectively manage own workload and that of the Geophysics team.
- Mentor and train staff.
- Maintain geophysical data standards and archives.
- Implement new technologies and represent CA externally.
- Undertake other duties as deemed appropriate to the role.
Qualifications & Experience
- Proven experience of managing a broad range of archaeological geophysical survey projects from inception to completion safely and to deadline.
- Demonstrable experience of geophysical survey data processing, and QA procedures.
- Advanced ICT skills, particularly in the use of Microsoft Office (Word, Excel and Access).
- Proven experience in project planning, costing and specification.
- Demonstrable experience of developing and maintaining high-quality relations with clients.
- Excellent organisational and time management skills.
- Proven experience in the management and control of resources and project budgets.
- Experience in assuring the quality of projects and reports undertaken by others.
- Administrative skills, including proven ability to maintain accurate records and accounts.
- Excellent inter-personal skills, with the ability to communicate appropriately at all levels within the organisation.
- An effective leader able to motivate, guide, and encourage staff.
- The ability to work effectively as part of a team.
- A full clean manual driving licence.
- Membership of the Chartered Institute for Archaeologists (MCIfA level) or to be attained within six months of joining.
Desirable Skills
- A knowledge of current Health and Safety legislation, and best practice in a commercial environment.
- Experience of all-terrain vehicle and hand cart magnetometry surveys.
- Resistivity, GPR or electromagnetic experience.
- Scripting experience.
