Cothill is seeking an experienced and motivated Head of Grounds to join our community. This is an exciting opportunity to work at a beautiful rural school set within 26 acres of woodland and landscaped grounds, playing a key role in maintaining and enhancing our outdoor environment.

The Head of Grounds is responsible for the day-to-day preparation, maintenance and presentation of sports pitches, hard surfaces, gardens and school grounds, ensuring they are maintained to the highest possible standard. You will lead and manage a small team consisting of a Groundsperson and a Gardener, planning workloads and setting standards. A strong understanding of health and safety is essential. You will actively promote and contribute to a positive safety culture across all aspects of the role.

Key Responsibilities

  • Maintain sports pitches, grounds, gardens and hard surfaces to a high standard
  • Lead, manage and support a grounds team of two
  • Plan seasonal work programmes and daily activities
  • Ensure compliance with health and safety regulations and best practice
  • Support the school’s sporting and wider outdoor activities

About You

You will have proven experience working at a supervisory level in a similar grounds or sports turf environment and demonstrate a proactive, hands-on approach.

Essential / Desired Qualifications & Experience

  • Sports Turf Management qualification (minimum Level 3 or equivalent), or willingness to work towards
  • Spraying certificates PA1, PA2, PA6 – essential
  • Experience working in a sports setting – essential
  • Chainsaw licence – desirable
  • Experience working within a school environment – desirable
