The Senior Fire Assay Manager will be responsible for leading the department in delivering accurate, ISO17025-compliant analyses through efficient workflows, technical expertise, and strict safety standards. They will ensure timely turnaround, maintain quality documentation, and foster team development to achieve operational excellence.
Key Responsibilities- Coordinate and supervise staffing resources within the fire assay department to ensure smooth workflow.
- Organize and manage sample throughput within the fire assay department to ensure full utilization of equipment and resources.
- Provide technical support with respect to methodologies utilized within the fire assay department.
- Ensure quality of analysis is compliant with ISO17025 standards.
- Ensure turnaround times are met for the fire assay department.
- Manage the maintenance of all documentation for the department in line with the quality requirements.
- Ensure the safe operation of all tasks within the department in line with all risk assessments.
- Assist in any investigations relating to non-conforming work and implement any corrective actions as required.
- Give training to staff as required and complete annual performance reviews with the laboratory manager.
- Maintain stock levels of fire assay reagents and consumables.
- Organize and manage blood testing for staff within the department.
- Attend laboratory meetings as required.
- Manage day-to-day HR functions such as holiday approval.
- Any other tasks assigned by the laboratory management.
- Minimum of five years’ experience working within fire assay essential.
- Previous experience working within an ISO 17025 laboratory desirable.
- Minimum of three years management experience essential.
- Full technical knowledge of fire assay process and how it works in relation to metals and minerals.
- Good communication and listening skills.
- Ability to influence and effect change.
- Ability to manage own workload including prioritisation of tasks and working to deadlines.
- Good IT skills including but not limited to Microsoft Office (e.g. Word, Excel, PowerPoint, etc).
