Embedded within the Performance Electronics business and forming part of Electronics Senior Management Team, this role provides financial leadership, commercial insight and robust control to support decision-making, performance improvement and integration into the wider Group. The Financial Controller will partner closely with operational and functional leaders, balancing local business priorities with Group reporting, governance and strategic objectives.

The role is accountable for delivering strong financial control, high-quality reporting, forward-looking insight and effective business partnering to the Managing Director and wider leadership team, including:

  • Own weekly cash flow reporting and support short-term liquidity planning.
  • Lead the monthly management accounts process, including flash reporting, balance sheet reconciliations, full profit and loss, balance sheet and cash flow reporting.
  • Present clear and timely monthly financial reporting to the Group Financial Controller.
  • Produce core monthly reporting across stock, revenue, profitability, major customer programmes, headcount, variance analysis, outlook, key performance indicators and grant activity.
  • Lead the annual budget and quarterly forecasting processes for the business.
  • Develop and maintain five-year financial models for the division, including full profit and loss, balance sheet and cash flow projections.
  • Partner with the commercial team to provide financial support for bids, tenders and strategic business opportunities.

The role will also take ownership of the following ongoing business requirements:

  • Lead delivery of the interim and year-end audit processes for the business.
  • Manage the preparation and submission of R&D tax claims and related supporting analysis.
  • Provide ongoing financial support and challenge to the commercial team as required.
  • Line manage the Management Accountant, driving capability, accountability and process efficiency.
  • Consider the health and safety, environmental and energy impact of all activities.
  • Support the Company’s compliance with the UK General Data Protection Regulation (UK GDPR) and the Data Protection Act 2018 by following company policy and best practice.

The successful candidate will bring strong technical finance capability together with the credibility and resilience to operate independently within a fast-paced group environment. They will be an effective business partner, able to influence senior stakeholders, embed change. The following skills, attributes and experience are considered essential:

  • Qualified CIMA or ACCA accountant.
  • Strong technical knowledge of IFRS and FRS 102, with the ability to apply that knowledge in a commercial environment.
  • Strong systems and analytical capability, including advanced Excel skills and working knowledge of SAP.
  • Proven experience operating independently or in a standalone finance leadership role within a larger group structure.
  • Strong business partnering skills, with the credibility and judgement to influence both finance and non-finance stakeholders.
  • Demonstrable track record of driving operational and strategic change within a business.
  • Resilient and confident, with the ability to challenge constructively and build alignment through tact, credibility and sound judgement.
  • Effective communicator, able to translate financial information into clear insight for a wide range of audiences.
  • Strong attention to detail and the ability to deliver to tight deadlines in a dynamic environment.

Desirable:

  • US GAAP knowledge
