This unique role offers you the opportunity to work collaboratively with us to design and conduct a global health-related project relevant to your community. We will share our skills and knowledge in evidence-based medicine, research design, and medical communication to support you in delivering the project to maximise its impact.

Salary: A pro-rated salary of £28,860 per annum

Start Date: This internship will run from Monday 12th October to Friday 18th December 2026 (inclusive)

Location: This role is available in our London office, with the opportunity to work from home one day per week

An Opportunity for LSHTM Students from Low-or Middle-Income Countries

Costello Medical provides scientific support to the healthcare industry in the analysis, interpretation and communication of clinical and health economic data. Through both commercial and charitable projects, we are dedicated to the improvement of health and healthcare globally.

Our Global Health Internship offers LSHTM students from low- or middle-income countries the opportunity to gain skills in evidence-based medicine by working on a healthcare problem which is relevant to their community.

We welcome project proposals relating to any of our service offerings, but examples of projects include:

  • Conducting a systematic literature review to assess the effect of bereavement care for parents after stillbirth in Ghana
  • Developing an educational toolkit to improve the management of newborn infections in low- and middle-income countries
  • Assessing the cost-effectiveness of cervical cancer screening in Kenya

You will also have the opportunity to learn a range of technical skills relevant to your specific project approach. This role will be based in our London office and you will be required to attend our office 4 days per week, with the option to work from home 1 day per week.

Requirements

The successful candidate should:

  • Be a national of a low- or middle-income country, working or studying in a health-related profession.
  • Have recently completed a Master's degree at LSHTM
  • Have an idea for a global health-related project which they would like to work on, including a well-considered project approach and plan to implement project findings back into local communities
  • Be educated in a health or science-related subject
  • Be fluent in written and spoken English and have good numeracy skills
  • Be able to prioritise own tasks and workload
  • Have a “can do” approach, and initiative, positivity and creativity
  • Be able to work in a team and with an excellent level of productivity
  • Have permission to work in the UK by the proposed start date and for the duration of the internship
  • Have a developed project plan to tackle during their internship.

The candidate will be required to explain:

  • Why they think their project topic is important
  • Their proposed project approach
  • What their project will produce at the end of the internship, for example, a manuscript, policy paper, newspaper article, educational leaflet, economic model
  • The anticipated implications of their project for their community after the internship

It should be noted that the internship is not intended as a means to gain experience at a UK company with a view to gaining full-time employment at Costello Medical and it will not be possible to apply for a permanent position until 2 years post-internship. The primary intention of the internship is to provide you with the skills and tools to complete your project, enhancing its impact and allowing you to make meaningful change in your community following the internship.

The Recruitment Process

The deadline for applications is Sunday 28th June 2026. After applications have closed, you will be provided with an update on your application. If successful, you will be invited to the next round of the recruitment process which will consist of a 30-minute telephone interview with a member of our Global Health Internship team to learn more about your experience, project and interest in giving back to your community. The final round of the recruitment process will require you to prepare a short 15-minute presentation based on your project proposal, followed by a 30-minute remote interview with the team. Final interviews will be arranged according to your availability and will take place from the week commencing 10th August 2026.
