We are currently looking for a Merchandise Accounts Payable Clerk (Temporary – 6–9 Months) for our Watford Office. The Merchandise Accounts Payable Clerk will be responsible for supporting the Merchandise Accounts Payable Department, which manages payments to merchandise suppliers and handles related queries for both the UK and Icelandic operations, ensuring accuracy, timeliness and compliance in the processing of supplier invoices and claims. The duties will include:
- Conducting daily reviews of discrepancies between supplier invoices and Costco purchase orders identified through the auto-match system.
- Resolving invoice discrepancies promptly to ensure supplier payments are accurate and made on time.
- Receiving, logging and investigating supplier claims by liaising with buyers and/or warehouse teams.
- Processing valid claims, ensuring all supporting documentation is properly authorised.
- Communicating daily with suppliers, buyers and warehouse/depot personnel to follow up on and resolve claims and queries.
- Performing monthly reconciliation of supplier statements, ensuring timely follow-up and resolution of outstanding discrepancies.
- Reviewing all open receivings on a monthly basis.
- Supporting Iceland period-end tasks, including the preparation of allocated journals.
- Providing assistance to other areas of the finance function and the company as required.
To be suitable for the Merchandise Accounts Payable Clerk role you will:
- Be a fast learner with strong initiative and a desire for professional growth.
- Have prior accounts payable experience within a high-volume, computerised environment (AS400 experience preferred).
- Be a graduate with an accounting or business background and currently studying or intending to study towards a professional accountancy qualification.
- Be a strong team player who is self-motivated and has excellent verbal and written communication skills.
- Have exceptional attention to detail, organisational skills and the flexibility to prioritise work tasks and meet strict deadlines.
- Be proficient in Microsoft Word and Excel.
