CoStar is seeking a senior‑level attorney to serve as Senior Commercial Counsel, Europe. This senior commercial lawyer will be a key contributor to the growth of the business across Europe and beyond, leading commercial law matters and reporting directly to the Associate General Counsel – Head of Legal, Europe (based in London). The role provides commercial contracts and legal advice across CoStar’s leading products, including the CoStar database, LoopNet, OnTheMarket and Matterport.
The position is based in CoStar’s European head office, Blue Fin Building on the Southbank, London. The successful candidate will work primarily with teams in the UK, France, Germany and Spain, and globally where required.
Responsibilities
- Serve as the lead legal point of contact and trusted business partner to European sales teams and other key stakeholders.
- Provide strategic legal advice regarding all aspects of the contracting life cycle and run legal negotiations end‑to‑end.
- Advise on legislative changes and oversee implementation of new processes to ensure compliance.
- Build close cross‑functional relationships with stakeholders, maintaining a solid knowledge of products, services and operations.
- Draft and negotiate a variety of domestic and international commercial agreements, including licensing, SaaS, manufacturing, supply, consulting, marketing and other sales and operational agreements.
- Build and maintain templates and processes for jurisdiction‑specific commercial contracting.
- Maintain and manage notices, policies and related documents.
- Develop initial strategy for responding to contractual legal claims and threats of litigation, including assisting with fact development in pre‑litigation and/or litigation matters.
- Manage and collaborate with external counsel in multiple jurisdictions, negotiating fees and monitoring spend against budgets.
- Work collaboratively with peers in the global legal team to create process efficiencies.
Qualifications
- England and Wales qualified solicitor (or equivalent European jurisdiction qualification).
- Degree from a reputable university or UK law school with excellent academics.
- More than 5 years’ PQE, including 2 years at a top law firm; in‑house experience preferred.
- Experience working across multiple jurisdictions (UK, US, France, Germany, Spain) beneficial.
- Fluent or advanced proficiency in French, German and/or Spanish highly desirable.
- Experience negotiating contract terms on data privacy and intellectual property rights helpful.
- Ability to provide pragmatic, risk‑based advice to the business.
- Experience working for a US‑headquartered and/or publicly listed business desirable.
- Excellent organisational and interpersonal skills, highly organized, detail‑oriented, and efficient.
- Flexibility to manage a changing workload and thrive in new and potentially uncomfortable situations.
