Overview

In this role you will support corporate tax year-end and half-year accounting for Costain, ensuring tax compliance is embedded across systems and processes.

You will work closely with the Group Tax team to deliver timely returns, forecasts, and advisory support, while participating in transformation and digitalization of tax activities.

You will interact with HMRC, manage RDEC processes, and help optimize group relief and tax reporting across the group.

This is a hands-on role with significant cross-functional impact and interaction with the executive level.

Responsibilities

  • Prepare all Corporate Tax returns for the group and subsidiaries
  • Manage corporate tax cashflow, group relief, and RDEC relief processes
  • Account for corporate tax in group and subsidiary accounts (half-year and full-year)
  • Lead RDEC process management
  • Produce quarterly tax rate and payment on account forecasts
  • Respond to ad-hoc tax queries and attend HMRC meetings
  • Map processes for CT returns in support of SAO
  • Identify opportunities to improve processes and compliance via data capture and reporting
  • Contribute to tax transformation initiatives and digitalization efforts
  • Support entity rationalisation and other transformation activities
  • Prioritise CT actions with realistic timelines
  • Support the executive board agenda and broader transformation programs
  • Occasional travel to Costain sites across the UK
  • Key requirements
  • Accounting qualification (e. g., qualified accountant)
  • Corporation tax trained
  • Experience in completing and filing corporate tax returns
  • Experience with RDEC claims
  • Excellent organisation and communication skills
  • Construction sector experience preferred
  • Strong people skills; able to explain technical matters to non-technical staff
