Senior Quality Engineer – Stockton-On-Tees Job Description
We are seeking a detail-oriented and experienced Senior Quality Assurance Engineer to join our project delivery team. This role is critical in ensuring that all project activities within the EPCm phase comply with contractual, regulatory, and internal quality requirements. The successful candidate will be responsible for planning and executing audits, identifying non-conformances, and driving continuous improvement across engineering, procurement, and construction management functions.

Responsibilities
- Audit Execution:
Plan, schedule, and conduct internal and external audits to verify compliance with contractual obligations, project specifications, and quality management systems. - Contractual Compliance:
Interpret and assess project-specific contractual quality requirements and ensure alignment across all project phases. - Documentation Review:
Review and verify quality documentation including Inspection and Test Plans (ITPs), Quality Plans, and supplier quality records. - Root Cause Analysis:
- Systematic: Follows a logical, step-by-step approach.
- Evidence-based: Relies on data and information.
- Focused on Prevention: Aims to eliminate the root cause, not just fix the immediate issue.
- Collaborative: Involves input from relevant stakeholders and subject matter experts.
- Non-Conformance Management:
Identify, document, and track non-conformances; lead root cause analysis and corrective/preventive action processes. - Stakeholder Engagement:
Collaborate with engineering, procurement, and construction teams to ensure quality expectations are understood and met. - Reporting:
Prepare detailed audit reports, quality metrics, and dashboards for internal and client reporting. - Continuous Improvement:
Recommend and implement improvements to quality processes and systems based on audit findings and industry best practices.
Qualifications
- Technical/Quality Management qualification HNC or Equivalent.
- Minimum 7 years of experience in quality assurance within EPCm project environments.
- Strong technical knowledge of pipelines and associated welding codes like BS 4515 and/or API 1104.
- Professional knowledge of ISO 9001 and other relevant quality standards.
- Experience with quality auditing techniques and tools (e.g., ISO 19011).
- Familiarity with engineering and procurement documentation and workflows.
- Excellent communication, analytical, and problem-solving skills.
- Certification as a Lead Auditor.
- Experience of involvement in achieving mechanical completion on projects, up to pre-commissioning and commissioning activities.
- Member of CQI
- Experience in oil & gas, petrochemical, or infrastructure projects.
- Previous experience of working as a senior pipeline inspector/engineer.
- Ability to work independently and manage multiple priorities.
- Proficiency in quality management software and Microsoft Office Suit
- Experience of working with and monitoring the right first time (R1T) process from implementation throughout the project lifecycle for compliance and effectiveness.
- Experience of self-verification and oversight (SV&O) responsibilities covering both site and offsite activities to ensure compliance to contractual requirements
