We are pleased to announce that our M60 Simister Island team are looking to hire a Senior SHE Advisor to support the Contract SHE functions, provide, and support SHE solutions and enable the Contract / Operational Teams to implement the SHE Management System. The successful candidate will build and maintain relationships with all stakeholders, whilst providing an independent and objective view of SHE Performance on the Contract.

Costain have been appointed as Delivery Integration Partner by National Highways (NH) for delivery of the 240m rebuild of the Simister Island M60/M62/M66 interchange (M60 Junction 18), north of Manchester. As Delivery Integration Partner, Costain will overhaul the busy junction involving complex traffic management to keep tens of thousands of vehicles moving whilst construction takes place.

The works consist of:

  • A new free flow 'northern loop' - a new link to take drivers directly from M60 eastbound to M60 southbound without exiting the motorway
  • M66 mainline southbound widening and southbound slip road realignment to allow for construction of the northern loop
  • A widened connector road from M60 northbound to M60 westbound - replacing the current single lane with two lanes
  • Adding an extra lane in each direction on the M60 Junctions 17 to 18 (increasing from 4 to 5 lanes) while retaining the hard shoulders
  • Upgrades to drainage, lighting, signage and signalling

Responsibilities:

  • Support and Influence Contract Leadership Team, Clients, and other Stakeholders in compliance with the SHE Management System and Contract SHE Performance
  • Support and where required deliver training, to allow the contract team to successfully implement the SHE Management System
  • Coach and support the Contract Operational and Supply Chain Contractors in the delivery of the Contract SHE requirements
  • Where required be actively involved in the ongoing assessment of the Contracts Supply Chain Contractors
  • Actively support the delivery of the annual Contract and Group SHE Objectives
  • Actively engage with the Contract SHE Assurance programme to ensure compliance with company and statutory requirements
  • Actively support the investigation of all unplanned events and close out of assurance findings, ensuring lessons are shared in accordance with the SHE Management System
  • Support the timely reporting, analysis, and use of SHE data to support and influence the Contract Leadership Team and where required support the development and implementation of data-based improvement plans

Knowledge, Skills, and Experience:

  • Essential: SHE related experience
  • Desirable: Significant relevant SHE experience in relevant industry

Qualifications:

  • Essential: Tech. IOSH or AIEMA or equivalent NEBOSH Construction Certificate or IEMA Associate Qualification (Course) or equivalent
  • Desirable: Cert IOSH or AIEMA or equivalent NEBOSH Occupational Safety Diploma or Environmental Diploma or equivalent
