United Utilities have awarded Costain a new Managed Service Provider (MSP) framework contract. Under the contract, Costain provides the overall management and delivery of United Utilities' larger-scale water and wastewater asset maintenance activities across its network, including 96 water treatment and 575 wastewater treatment sites, which serve over six million people in the North West of England.
The Project Manager will lead on the delivery of planned and reactive project work across the UU region and develop key relationships with UU operational personnel and supply chain partners while promoting a team spirit environment. The role will require experience in both design and delivery of water projects, with the successful individual likely responsible for the delivery of a portfolio of smaller projects. This role will be hybrid, with working from the office and home depending on project requirements.
Responsibilities
- Leadership, line management and development of multidisciplinary teams.
- Provide whole life oversight and accountability for the successful completion of maintenance projects and services, through design, procurement, assembly, commissioning, and handover.
- Ensure supply chain remains compliant with the framework management plan.
- Provide leadership to create a safety culture to ensure Zero LTI and RIDDOR incidents.
- Ensure a commercial focus with a high level of challenge on project scope and choosing efficient delivery strategies.
- Ensure all stakeholders within MSP and United Utilities are engaged at strategic and operational levels and supportive of the projects and services and their potential impacts.
- Ensure consistent and reliable reporting of project/services performance into the MSP systems.
- Ensure key project and programme risks are identified early and mitigated where possible.
Knowledge, Skills, and Experience
- Previous experience of managing multidisciplinary projects including Civils and MEICA (preferably in the water sector).
- Strong track record of delivery of project programmes.
- Knowledge and understanding of construction contract law and forms of contract through experience and formal training.
- Ability to build trusted relationships with key client stakeholders and supply chain partners.
- Computer competence (MS Word, Excel, Document control system, Primavera software).
- Good communication and interpersonal skills.
Qualifications
- HNC/HND or degree in a relevant engineering discipline.
- SMSTS qualification or IOSH Managing Safely.
- Relevant CSCS card.
