Overview
In this role you will lead and shape Costain’s early careers portfolio, aligning development offerings with industry standards and skills needs. You will work with cross-functional teams to build a robust graduate, placement and apprenticeship pipeline and support participants and managers throughout the journey. You’ll partner with universities, training providers and vendors to maintain high-quality programs and drive continuous improvement. This is a mission-driven role at a leading infrastructure company, offering impact across talent development and organisational capability.
Responsibilities
- Create and manage a pipeline of candidates for placements, apprenticeships and graduate programs
- Collaborate with Project HR teams and Talent Acquisition to maximise role attraction
- Build relationships with line managers, trainers, assessors and verifiers to monitor progress and provide guidance
- Develop internal knowledge of apprentice and academic offerings (e.g., T Levels) and promote upskilling within the business
- Understand and map the skills landscape with FE/HE providers and sector bodies to support workforce development
- Support line managers on apprenticeship requirements, on- and off-the-job learning, and related skills expectations
- Guide EC participants through chartership journeys with L&D support and applications
- Establish a preferred supplier network for apprenticeship delivery and ensure standards compliance (Ofsted, industry bodies)
- Maintain and oversee EC reviews and progress reporting with EC Advisor attendance
- Support relationships with partner universities/colleges and training providers to deliver EC strategy
Key requirements
- Degree or equivalent in HR/Learning or relevant industry knowledge
- Strong communication and relationship-building skills
- Experience in early careers within technical/engineering/construction sectors (preferred)
- Ability to manage multiple programmes with tight deadlines
- Proficiency with IT packages (Word, Excel, Outlook) and LMS experience
- Understanding of apprenticeship requirements and knowledge of graduate development processes
- Experience with learning management systems and data reporting
- Demonstrated experience in developing and supporting apprenticeships and traineeships
- Strong communication and stakeholder management
- Proactive team player with problem-solving skills
