Site Manager in Chelmsford

Due to project growth, the position of Site Manager has become available to join our successful team based in Marks Tey, Essex. Cadent is the UK’s largest Gas Distribution Company, operating 4 of the 8 UK Gas Distribution Networks (East of England, London, NorthWest and West Midlands). Their service spans over 131,000 kilometres of pipes supplying to 11 million homes & businesses. Costain is the preferred bidder for the East of England Construction Management organisation (CMO).

Central to Costain’s role will be the strategic planning and programme management of Cadent’s capital investment programme, with a focus on delivering improved regulatory performance and future proofing the network for the benefit of Cadent’s customers. Responsibilities include:

• Providing all necessary coordination of personnel/local delivery partners (LDP’s) and site management, customer care officers, supervision and technical support in the delivery of construction work activities in accordance with designers' directions across the East of England network.
• Maximising the customer experience, ensuring Costain’s customer commitments to Cadent are met and customer initiatives are always a high priority.
• Consistently demonstrating, promoting and developing high standards of safety and compliance behaviour, leading by example.

Key qualifications and skills required:

• Previous gas supervisory experience is beneficial but not essential.
• Ability to lead a team, influence and drive performance.
• Site management experience.
• High standards of safety and customer behaviour, leading by example, promoting safety and customer culture.
• Working knowledge of relevant codes of practice, safety and statutory regulations.
• Experience in delivering works in a safe and compliant manner.
• Good communication skills required (written and verbal).
• CP status.
• Current UK driving licence.
• Analytical and problem-solving skills.
• Competent Person for routine operations (SCO5).
• Authorising Engineer for permit to work for excavations (SCO2).
• Temporary Works Appointed Person (Temporary Work Supervisor – BS5975).
• NRSWA Supervisor.
• SHEA Gas.
• Deep Excavation qualification.
• Working at Height appreciation.
• UMSTS / SMSTS.

Responsibilities also include:

• Developing a programme of work ensuring that projects are issued, monitored, delivered (to cost and time) in accordance with legislative, regulatory, Cadent technical standards, policies and procedures.
• Acting as competent person for Flow Stopping and Commissioning Operations in line with Cadent Safe Control of Operations, Main Laying and Service Laying Procedures.
• Managing the performance of the supply chain to ensure key contract objectives are delivered.
• Acting as a key advocate for the contract with senior representatives from local authority organisations to promote Cadent activities.
• Managing engineering teams to optimise operational activities thus ensuring key business objectives are delivered.
• Investigating and resolving customer queries, claims and complaints in an expedient and professional manner.
• Undertaking or assisting with incident reporting, investigations, submission of final reports as well as close out of remedial actions.
• Fostering a culture of team working and safety, creating a culture of zero tolerance of safety and compliance breaches and working towards an Injury Free Environment.
• Carrying out standby and call out duties as required.
• Carrying out any other reasonable duties appropriate for the role.
