Due to continued growth, we are looking for a Quality Manager to join our Resilience team in Aberdeen. Our Resilience team operates across the Oil and Gas market to support our customers in extending asset life, decarbonising, and ensuring a resilient and secure energy supply for the UK. We operate across the project lifecycle, from Feasibility Studies through FEED and into Detailed Engineering and Procurement for customers such as INEOS FPS, Dana, and EnQuest. We are a rapidly growing business unit with forecast growth double our size in 2026 and again in 2027.

The Quality Lead/Manager will set up, develop, and own the required Quality Control and Assurance capability for Costain’s Resilience business unit based out of the Aberdeen Office. The team operates across onshore and offshore assets throughout the full lifecycle from Feasibility, FEED, Detailed Engineering, and Procurement to Construction support. This individual will lead the implementation and management of project quality control plans, assurance plans, inspection regimes, and vendor checks through the full lifecycle. This role is based a minimum of 3 days a week in the Aberdeen office.

  • Chartered Member of the Chartered Quality Institute and hold CQP status (or an equivalent recognised Quality body) or an appropriate engineering institution.
  • Diploma or bachelor’s degree in quality management, Project Management, or related engineering discipline.
  • Lead Auditor qualification by a recognised industry body.
  • Formal training in root cause analysis techniques.
  • Oil & Gas Experience: Minimum 8+ years of QA/QC experience within the oil and gas sector.
  • Excellent knowledge of Quality Management Systems.
  • Comprehensive understanding of industry standards including ISO 9001.
  • Proficient in the analysis of processes and data.
  • High level of communication skills in both written and spoken format.
  • Proficient in the use of continuous improvement tools and techniques.
  • Demonstrates excellent customer service behaviours.
  • Extensive experience of Quality Management, including leading a quality team (QA and QC), preferably in the associated industry.
  • Practical experience of developing, implementing, and improving Quality Management Systems.
  • Hands-on experience with project and commercial management tools.
  • Relevant CSCS card.

UKCS regularity & QMS Governance:

  • Maintain full alignment with Costain, Customer, and regulatory requirements and establish and maintain Project Quality Management System for Aberdeen and monitor compliance.
  • Oversee compliance management relating to Safety and Environmental Critical Elements (SECEs).
  • Lead external audits and ensure quality risks are identified, recorded, and steps are taken to mitigate or eliminate.
  • Embed a robust Quality Culture across the engineering team, ensuring a process-driven approach to technical excellence.
  • Feed and Detailed Engineering Quality Assurance.
  • Establish the Quality Surveillance/Right 1st time programme across Costain, the subcontractors, and supply chain.
  • Enforce stage-gate verification processes during critical engineering milestones.
  • Review engineering deliverables (e.g. P&IDs, Isometrics, Data Sheets) to verify alignment.
  • Non-conformance management, including identification of potential failures/symptoms that could lead to non-conformance and apply preventive action.

Strategic Quality and Financial Risk Mitigation:

  • Manage commercial quality risks associated with high-value engineering design, complex procurement, and modifications.
  • Minimise financial exposure from fabrication rework, schedule delays, and liquidated damages through preventative assurance programmes.
  • Control the QA/QC department budget including setting the demand forecasting, management of resources, and optimising expenditures for internal inspectors, travel logistics, and third-party inspection agencies.
  • Report quality performance metrics directly to executive leadership teams, identifying systematic project risks before they impact the bottom line.
