This role supports Costain for the Reactor Height Reduction Project at Nuclear Restoration Services (NRS) Trawsfynydd Site, based in North Wales. The 3.5 year project will involve the partial demolition of each RB’s, reducing the overall height and reducing the current asset management liability. In addition, an extensive package of civil new build and remedial works will be delivered prolonging the durability of the retained structures.
A first of its kind for the Nuclear Sector; this challenging and exciting project which includes a wide supply chain will significantly reduce the uncertainty associated with the current condition of the reactor buildings and lessen the visual impact caused by the Reactor Buildings on the Snowdonia National Park.
Responsibilities- Act as the duty holder for electrical safety, ensuring the safe operation, isolation and control of HV and LV electrical systems in accordance with the site electrical safety rules.
- Provide technical authority, leadership and assurance for electrical activities, acting as a focal point between operations, engineering, contractors and the permit office.
- Support the permit office, ensuring permits are correctly specified, coordinated and controlled, with particular focus on electrical interfaces and energy isolation.
- Maintain safe systems of work, preventing energisation incidents and enabling activities to proceed safely and efficiently.
- Act as the Senior Authorised Person Electrical in accordance with the site safety rules, including authorisation, isolation, earthing and re-energisation of electrical systems.
- Plan, implement and control electrical isolations and switching programmes, coordinating with operations, construction and the permit office.
- Provide technical review and approval of electrical aspects of permits to work, RAMS, switching schedules and isolation plans.
- Support the permit office function, assign with the issue, suspension and closure of permits, ensuring interfaces between electrical and other activities are effectively managed.
- Monitor and assure contractor compliance with electrical safety standards, site rules and permit conditions through inspections, audits and oversight.
- Investigate electrical incidents, near misses and non-conformances, contributing to lessons learned, corrective actions and continuous improvement.
- Current or previously held SAP for HV and/or LV systems.
- Strong working knowledge of Electrical Safety rules, isolation procedures, lock-off, earthing and energisation controls.
- Proven ability to interpret electrical drawings, SLDs and switching schedules.
- Demonstrable commitment to safety leadership, procedural compliance and risk management.
- Experience operating a permit-to-work system.
- Experience working in nuclear, high-hazard, or heavily regulated environments.
- Prior experience of working with a permit office or control of work team.
- Knowledge of temporary electrical systems associated with construction, demolition or temporary works.
- Formal electrical qualifications and membership of a relevant professional body.
- IOSH or NEBOSH Managing Safely.
- CSCS Supervisor Gold card.
- Control & Supervision of SSoW.
