Due to recent project wins, we are looking for a Quality Manager to join a large scale Energy Infrastructure project. At Costain, our Energy Sector helps our customers transition to clean energy while providing practical solutions to improve the efficiency, sustainability and resilience of existing infrastructure. We focus on delivering engineering, construction and digital solutions to support the UK’s transition to a low-carbon economy.
Navenby is a critical new infrastructure project to enable connections to the new Springwell Solar Farm and Battery Storage (BESS) projects alongside seven large embedded customers. Responsibilities- Establish and maintain the Project Quality Management System and monitor compliance.
- Ensure quality risks are identified, recorded and steps are taken to mitigate or eliminate.
- Support the Senior Project Management in the achievement of the Quality Objectives and establish, monitor and report against project Quality KPIs.
- Establish the Quality requirements for the subcontractors and supply chain and subsequent pre-qualification assessment and approval for the preferred suppliers list.
- The main Quality Management interface with the customer, subcontractors and supply chain.
- Establish the Quality Surveillance/Right 1st Time Programme across Costain, the subcontractors and supply chain.
- Establish the project audit plan and verification oversight requirements to verify contractual compliance is achieved, including leading internal audits and external audits of subcontractors and supply chain.
- Non-conformance management, including identification of potential failures/symptoms that could lead to non-conformances and apply preventive action.
- Managing the QA/QC resource, regarding budget, availability and location against project life cycle.
- Ensure that all project Quality Records are verified in accordance with relevant technical specifications and that project specific procedures and systems are in place for monitoring and measuring Quality Records concurrency with project life cycle & Right 1st Time (R1T) delivery.
- Chartered Member of the Chartered Quality Institute and hold CQP status (or an equivalent recognised Quality body) or an appropriate engineering institution.
- Diploma or Bachelor degree in Quality Management, Project Management or related engineering discipline.
- Minimum 10+ years, with proven leadership in client-driven quality frameworks (e.g., National Grid, HS2, National Highways).
- Developing and implementing Quality Management Systems (QMS) aligned to ISO 9001.
- Managing audits, inspections, and compliance on large, multi-disciplinary projects.
- Extensive experience of Quality Management, including leading a quality team (QA and QC), preferably in associated industry.
- Practical experience of developing, implementing and improving Quality Management Systems.
- Lead Auditor qualification by recognised industry body.
- Leadership and influence in quality culture development - Ability to drive a “right first time” culture through strong leadership, ownership, influence, and expertise.
- Strong communication and conflict-management skills - Effective at working with project teams, clients, corporate functions, and supply chain partners.
- Quality management and assurance systems expertise - Deep knowledge of UK infrastructure quality management systems, requirements, and best practice.
- Analytical and reporting capability - Skilled in producing compliant reports, defect reporting, forecasting, risk registers, and assurance documentation.
- Training, mentoring, and team development - Ability to support and develop quality teams and wider project staff through structured training and hands-on guidance.
- Knowledge of industry best practice and quality management systems in construction and engineering delivery.
- End-to-end project lifecycle quality management - Experience supporting tendering, design, construction, commissioning, and handover phases.
- Leading internal and external audits - Ensuring compliance with corporate, client, and industry requirements.
- Managing and producing quality documentation - Including inspection requirements, databases, reports, and assurance records.
- Identifying and managing quality risks - Ability to triage, control, and complete high-risk quality activities to achieve right-first-time delivery.
- Collaboration with project teams and supply chain partners - Working with subcontractors, technical experts, and internal teams to ensure compliance and excellence.
