The Anglian Water Strategic Pipeline Alliance (SPA) project currently involves the planning, design and construction of circa 320km of new strategic, large diameter, clean water interconnector pipelines and associated infrastructure across Anglian Water’s region. The SPA Alliance is also taking on responsibility for the future interconnector pipelines, a further 260km of strategic interconnector pipelines and associated infrastructure.

As an Electrical Design Engineer, you will be embedded within the SPA delivery team and be responsible for several projects design outputs, information flow and consistency of approach. Directed by the EICA Discipline Head, you will monitor workload and liaise with Design Managers, Design Leads, and other discipline Designers alongside this role. You will be responsible for and lead the production of detailed electrical design elements.

The role is flexible and home based, but must be able to attend the Peterborough office once a fortnight.

Key Responsibilities
  • To provide robust, innovative, and optimised designs for an industry significant project, to deliver value for money.
  • Acting as a proactive problem-solver applying engineering principles.
  • Responsible for outline and detailed electrical deliverables for implementing the design and delivery stage of a series of potable water pumping station and reservoir projects.
  • Responsible for single line diagrams, DNO supply applications to completion, generator system specifications, MCC specifications, Electrical Installation Specifications, System Architecture Diagrams, package plant specifications, WIMES datasheets, reviewing supplier designs, Factory Acceptance Tests, Water Quality Instrumentation, and telemetry systems.
  • You will input to process control, Intelligent P&IDs, 3D models, HAZOP and LOPA studies.
  • Be responsible for the development of technical solutions from concept selection through design development to construction status and handover.
  • Understand the importance of design interactions from solutions, production, and delivery.
  • Embrace digital transformation throughout design, including the creation of a Digital Twin.
  • Develop commercial abilities in managing estimates, targets, and forecasts for the design work.
  • Guide the team in producing designs which minimise safety risks in construction and subsequent maintenance.
  • Co-ordinate the production of construction drawings in CAD, BIM, and GIS environment.
  • Have an ability to embrace digital delivery – e.g., intelligent P&ID’s.
  • Involvement in the interfaces with our Utilities and Environmental teams. Leading stakeholder discussions with power supplies and communications networks.
  • Support the Solutions, Engineering and Production teams with pioneering ideas to gain efficiencies.
  • Understanding of CAPEX and OPEX solution decision making.
  • Input to the procurement model we have for MEICA, including determining the sub-contractor responsibilities.
Knowledge, Skills, and Experience
  • Essential Experience of working in the water industry and multi-disciplinary teams.
  • A track record in producing electrical outline and detailed design.
  • Ability to embrace production thinking and be well versed with producing solutions which are operable and maintainable.
  • Ability to understand the system interoperability and how their design and decisions will impact the SPA control philosophy and performance with new and existing AW assets.
  • Experienced in outline and detailed design of water industry applications.
  • Experienced in Design and Build.
  • Experienced in witness testing.
  • Experienced in selection and design of Instrumentation, control systems and automation equipment in a process environment.
Qualifications
  • Essential: Familiar with BS7671 latest edition.
  • Full UK Driving Licence.
  • Desirable: HNC or Degree qualified in electrical engineering.
