The Anglian Water Strategic Pipeline Alliance (SPA) project currently involves the planning, design and construction of circa 320km of new strategic, large diameter, clean water interconnector pipelines and associated infrastructure across Anglian Water’s region. The SPA Alliance is also taking on responsibility for the future interconnector pipelines, a further 260km of strategic interconnector pipelines and associated infrastructure.
The role will require providing support in the design and management of archaeological surveys, evaluations and other types of intrusive fieldwork should they be required. This role will support the whole SPA Archaeology Team (SAT) where needed. Tasks include authoring written deliverables and producing supporting maps for specifications. This role is flexible, working from the Peterborough office on a weekly basis and home (days to be agreed).

Responsibilities- Produce archaeological risk maps identifying areas of high, moderate and low risk. Risk-mapping will be based on available historic environment data. The risk-map is a dynamic product and will be updated at regular intervals in response to the developing design and baseline understanding.
- Work in collaboration with other SAT members and share updates with the team on a regular basis.
- Use the information gathered during the risk-mapping exercise to produce historic environment desk-based assessments. Attend site walkovers and visit archives and record offices to gather baseline information.
- Use the information gathered during the risk-mapping and desk-based assessments to inform the design of archaeological surveys and evaluations.
- The archaeologist will be able to use ArcGIS software without support.
- The archaeologist will use their experience of archaeological fieldwork to inform the design.
- Demonstrable experience producing archaeological and historic baselines, impact assessments and deliverable figures.
- Experience of working on linear projects, preferably pipelines.
- Takes personal responsibility for supporting programme delivery, particularly in the areas of adopting risk-based approaches, cost control and programme management.
- Ability to work flexibly across several projects and to meet required deadlines.
- Effective written and verbal communication.
- Effective organization/analytical skills.
- Experience of using GIS.
- Member of CIfA, Practitioner or Associate level.
- Full driving licence.
- ArcGIS software to produce mapping and datasets.
