Cadent is the UK’s largest Gas Distribution Company, operating 4 of the 8 UK Gas Distribution Networks (East of England, London, NorthWest and West Midlands). Their service spans over 131,000 kilometres of pipes supplying to 11 million homes and businesses. Costain is the preferred bidder for the East of England Construction Management organisation (CMO). Central to Costain’s role will be the strategic planning and programme management of Cadent’s capital investment programme, with a focus on delivering improved regulatory performance and future proofing the network for the benefit of Cadent’s customers.
To provide all necessary coordination of personnel / local delivery partners (LDP’s) and site management, customer care officers, supervision and technical support in the delivery of construction work (replacement, reinforcements, diversions, multiple occupancy buildings, reinstatement etc.) activities in accordance with designers' directions across the East of England network. Maximise the customer experience, ensuring Costain’s customer commitments to Cadent are met and customer initiatives are always a high priority. Responsibilities- Consistently demonstrate, promote and develop high standards of safety behaviour, leading by example.
- Develop a programme of work ensuring that projects are issued, monitored, delivered (to cost and time) in accordance with legislative, regulatory, Cadent technical standards, policies and procedures.
- Act as competent person for Flow Stopping and Commissioning Operations in line with Cadent Safe Control of Operations, Main Laying and Service Laying Procedures.
- Manage the performance of the supply chain to ensure key contract objectives are delivered.
- Act as a key advocate for the contract with senior representatives from local authority organisations to promote Cadent activities.
- Manage engineering teams to optimise operational activities thus ensuring key business objectives are delivered.
- Manage the engineering teams ensuring the highest standard of customer service and safety standards are delivered, providing assurance through audit and inspection, taking appropriate action to address areas of improvement.
- Support the Area Manager in identifying areas for improvement, leading on initiatives as appropriate.
- Maximise staff engagement through actively contributing at team talks, addressing staff issues, identifying development needs, delivering as appropriate toolbox talks, safety briefings and team briefs.
- Investigate and resolve customer queries, claims and complaints in an expedient and professional manner.
- Undertake or assist with incident reporting, investigations, submission of final reports as well as close out of remedial actions.
- Undertake or be working towards Temporary Works Supervisor (TWS) duties for temporary works operations.
- Continually monitor operatives’ performance and foster a culture of team working and safety, creating a culture of zero tolerance of safety and compliance breaches and working towards an Injury Free Environment.
- Carry out standby and call out duties as required.
- Carry out any other reasonable duties appropriate for the role.
- Previous gas supervisory experience is beneficial but not essential.
- Ability to lead a team, influence and drive performance.
- Site management experience.
- High standards of safety and customer behaviour, leading by example, promoting safety and customer culture.
- Working knowledge of relevant codes of practice, safety and statutory regulations.
- Experience in delivering works in a safe and compliant manner.
- Good communication skills required (written and verbal).
- Experience in operations relevant to SCO procedures (beneficial but not essential).
- Current UK driving licence.
- Analytical and problem-solving skills.
- Competent Person for routine operations (SCO5).
- Authorising Engineer for permit to work for excavations (SCO2).
- Temporary Works Appointed Person (Temporary Work Supervisor – BS5975).
