Working in a multi-disciplinary team delivering infrastructure projects. Leading a team of Civil and Structural Designers and Apprentices providing CAD and BIM design support to projects undertaken by the Manchester Civil and Structural Engineering team across the Costain business. This is an exciting and challenging role in a growing team of 130+ Civil and Structural Engineers and Designers. Our department covers a range of projects from Concept Studies through to Detailed Design providing a variety of interesting work. Industries can range across Water, Transportation, Energy, Nuclear and Defence.
Responsibilities
- Managing a team of 45 Designers and Apprentices including resource allocation, team utilisation, competency and performance management.
- Interfacing effectively with Engineers, other engineering disciplines and construction teams.
- Developing BIM strategies and digital execution plans for bids and projects.
- Providing time/cost estimates for CAD & BIM support to projects.
- Ensuring appropriate CAD systems are available and used and work is completed in accordance with relevant codes, standards and company/client procedures.
- Maintaining the required technical quality of work produced by the team.
- Ensuring all assigned work is carried out in compliance with agreed budget and schedule and project risks/changes are identified and accurately controlled.
- Providing CAD/BIM design, checks and advice, including innovating, developing new solutions and contributing towards value engineering.
- Leading the development of knowledge and skills within the team, including assisting in the training and technical development of designers and apprentices.
- Communicating and collaborating with clients, projects and sites to promote the C&S CAD/BIM design team.
- A requirement to undertake occasional site visits, attend design reviews and client meetings.
- Providing support and guidance to team members to facilitate capability and professional development.
- Challenge yourself and others to deliver value engineering design solutions.
- Being an effective, confident communicator with our diverse client portfolio.
Qualifications
Essential
- Extensive UK experience in energy/infrastructure sectors at all stages of the project lifecycle.
- Extensive UK knowledge and experience of the application of multiple CAD/BIM systems for example from AutoDesk, Bentley, Aveva and of Common Data environments such as ACC and Projectwise.
- Experience in leading teams and supporting more junior designers.
- Good knowledge of design working practices and installation requirements of the discipline across a range of industries.
- Extensive knowledge of UK legislation, standards and CDM implementation.
- Minimum HNC Civil or Structural Engineering or equivalent.
- CSCS Eligible for security clearance - UK national or have been a resident in the UK for a minimum of five years.
Desirable
- Experience with optioneering assessments, defining scopes of work, supporting estimates and business development.
- Experience of rail, highways, water and Nuclear and Defence sectors an advantage.
- IEng or EngTech Professional Qualification from suitable Engineering Institution.
- CCNSG Recognised Leadership/Management Training.
