When taking on one of the many apprenticeships on offer by Costain, you will be supported by your project line manager and team, the Costain Early Careers Team, and the training provider of your academic qualification. The training provider may be a college, a university or even an independent training provider. You will be supported throughout your apprenticeship by your local team and line manager, and you will be given time to carry out your studies with the provider. Your on-site training will align with work available on site and will ensure you gain the experience required to meet the technical and competency levels to achieve your apprenticeship goals.

Responsibilities for an Apprentice Project Controls:

  • Providing support in planning and scheduling of project activities
  • Cost management support for projects
  • Cost estimating support to project managers and engineers
  • Collating, analysing and presenting project data in reports
  • Provide support to document control and project governance
  • Developing skills in new software including Primavera (P6)
  • Working towards your formal qualification
  • Keeping a work diary outlining your training progress throughout your apprenticeship

Essential Knowledge, Skills and Experience:

  • Flexibility to travel to sites across the UK – driving licence preferred or willing to use public transport for travel
  • Works well within a team, but also comfortably on your own

Responsibilities for an Apprentice Project Manager:

  • Project Management: Learn to oversee and drive projects from start to finish.
  • Project Controls: Gain insights into managing project budgets, schedules and resources.
  • Quality: Be involved with checking, measuring and evaluating the quality of your project work against the quality criteria and standards, and taking corrective actions if needed.
  • Commercial: Ensure that all commercial aspects of the projects under your remit are properly managed and controlled, and support your manager to ensure that the commercial strategy is developed and delivered in accordance with the requirements of the business.
  • Construction: Get hands-on experience in the execution and operational phases of projects.

Throughout the training programme and in your career, you will be an integral part to the success of pioneering projects.

Qualifications:

Essential:

  • Minimum of 5 GCSEs Grade 4/C in Mathematics, English Language & or Science/Engineering subject
  • Vocational equivalents at level 3 or higher will also be considered as equivalent to UCAS points
  • Functional Skills Level 2 will also be considered as equivalent to GCSE Grade 4/C

Desirable:

  • Minimum of 96 UCAS points, at A Level / T-Level, all subjects considered
