Due to continued growth, the position of a Junior Document Controller has become available to join our successful team based in Aberdeen. The Junior Document Controller will play a vital role in the team, contributing to efficient document control, data management, and overall project success. This role is hybrid, 3 days a week in our Aberdeen office. At Costain, we believe diverse perspectives drive innovation. Responsibilities
  • Keep the document control system up to date and follow company procedures.
  • Log, issue and track documents to internal teams, suppliers and clients, keeping clear records of who received what and when.
  • Manage version control and audit trails so only current documents are used.
  • Enter and update metadata accurately; run simple status and distribution reports when asked.
  • Prepare and maintain templates and forms; respond to document requests promptly.
  • Coordinate reviews and approvals so documents are turned around on time.
  • Carry out basic quality checks for completeness, file naming and formatting before issue.
  • Liaise with project teams and external parties; escalate document issues or delays early.
QualificationsEssential
  • Previous experience in document control, administrative support, or a technical clerk role preferred.
  • Familiarity with document control software and database systems.
  • Strong organisational and time-management skills, with the ability to handle multiple tasks simultaneously.
  • Attention to detail and commitment to accuracy.
  • Excellent communication skills, both written and verbal.
  • Proficient in MS Office applications and document management systems.
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
Desirable
  • Familiar with common document control/CDE tools (e.g. BC, ProjectWise, D2, SharePoint).
  • Basic knowledge of version control and file-naming standards.
  • Willing to visit project sites occasionally.
