Costain Group PLC is inviting applications for a Senior Quantity Surveyor – Design to join our team.
The senior surveyor will manage all assigned commercial activities within the project environment, working independently or as part of a small commercial team. The role includes involvement in every stage of the project life cycle, from cost minimisation to value engineering, ensuring contractual standards and quality meet expectations of the contract leader and customers.
Responsibilities
- Manage and issue accurate, timely, and compliant notices and correspondence.
- Identify contractual and commercial risks and opportunities for the Contract Leader.
- Prepare applications for payment and assessment/preparation of payment certificates.
- Maintain registers of variations, delays, extensions and claim information.
- Implement the company’s commercial policies and procedures consistently.
- Assist with monthly progress valuations and claims for work completed.
- Interface with customer commercial and project teams.
- Prepare pre‑contract tender negotiations and reports.
- Produce monthly cost reports, forecasts and Contract Leader reports.
- Review value management and advise on risk management.
- Prepare supply chain queries, negotiate, administer and close supply chain contracts.
- Plan and implement change management and cost control.
- Monitor and update the supply chain procurement plan including benchmarking.
- Liaise with site teams, supply chain and customer representatives.
- Provide contractual advice to project and site teams as required.
- Maintain awareness of construction contracts in use.
- Understand the implications of health, safety and environmental regulations.
- Report health, safety and environmental risks to Contract Leader/Project Manager.
Essential Qualifications and Experience
- Post‑graduate commercial experience in the construction industry with a demonstrable track record.
- Demonstrable financial and commercial acumen.
- Practical, logical, and methodical working approach.
- Experience setting up and operating office management systems, filing, document control, and distribution.
- Experience taking technical minutes at contractual meetings and producing reports, payment certificates, interim financial reports and close‑out reports.
- Ability to draft effective contractual correspondence and facilitate collaborative solutions.
- Proven negotiating and team‑working skills with the ability to motivate and lead a team.
- Strong analytical skills.
- Demonstrable legal, contractual and construction knowledge.
- Confidence and ability to assert influence.
Desirable
- A creative and innovative approach to problem‑solving.
- Experience developing and implementing procurement and contract strategies.
Qualifications
- Holds an RICS / CICES accredited degree.
- Senior Quantity Surveyors should be nearing completion of Full Membership with RICS / CIEC.
