We are looking for an Occupational Health Nurse to join an Energy project based in Teesside. This role will work 4 days a week and is a full‑time on‑site position.

Responsibilities

  • To provide guidance and knowledge to SHE and SLT for their site Occupational Health (OH) delivery arrangements.
  • To manage the site‑based OH function for Costain, and upon agreement with Agency, Contractors, Client as determined by Project Lead and SHE Manager.
  • To agree with the SHE Manager on the OH duties and role for site level, such as safety‑critical medicals, health surveillance, drug and alcohol, sickness absence, work‑related incidents, wellbeing.
  • Duties and role will depend on the OH Nurse applicant competencies, proficiencies and experience.
  • To assist at site level with other health initiatives as agreed by SHE Managers, e.g. wellbeing initiatives, toolbox talks, training and awareness.
  • To support and comply with Costain OH Governance / Standard Operating Procedures alongside Costain Group OH Manager.
  • To support the wider Costain OH Nurse team as part of Costain business expectations and SHE Plan.

Knowledge, Skills, and Experience

  • Demonstrate the skills required to deliver effective Occupational Health (OH) autonomously.
  • Maintain professional competence.
  • Fulfil role in accordance with the NMC The Code (Prioritise people, Practise effectively, Preserve safety, Promote professionalism and trust).
  • Lead on OH for defined activities in line with Costain agreed Standard Operating Procedures.
  • Fulfil site requirements as agreed with SHE manager and site‑specific need.
  • Manage and maintain Costain internal processes for: Governance (record keeping and confidentiality), clinical standard operating procedures, fitness for work, surveillance, interpretation of results/outcomes with advice to management, site training initiatives.
  • Use of external providers, where required to arrange person‑specific health assessments.
  • Demonstrate the skills, knowledge and expertise required for health surveillance, recall schedule, advice to management.
  • Familiarisation of additional Costain approved services and support for an employee’s health and wellbeing.
  • Demonstrate knowledge and experience of sickness absence management, including reasonable adjustments.
  • Collaboration with stakeholders to develop inclusive strategies that enable innovative, person‑centred approaches for employees who may need adaptations and adjustments to their work due to health and wellbeing reasons.
  • Assist SHE manager with delivery of anonymised monthly Occupational Health dashboard reporting.

Essential

  • Registered General Nurse (RGN), with an effective, current registration (up to date).
  • Competent and confident with Excel / Word / PowerPoint / Teams / OneNote.
  • Ability to deliver site training briefings and material.
  • Management of confidential electronic record keeping.
  • NMC (Nursing & Midwifery Council) professional register.

Desirable

  • An occupational health qualification, such as the following:
  • Occupational Health Practice Foundation Course.
  • Diploma in Occupational Health Practice Foundation Course.
  • Post Graduate Occupational Health Qualification.
  • Health surveillance training (and evidence) within the last 2 years (or working towards) in the following: Audio metry, Spirometry, Vision screening, Skin assessments.
  • Activity‑specific training and evidence such as:
    • Sickness absence report writing for management.
    • Mental Health First Aid or equivalent.
    • IOSH health & safety qualification.
    • Experience in supporting health risk assessments.
    • Faculty of Occupational Health Nursing.
    • Society of Occupational Medicine.
    • Royal College of Nursing.
