Costain has been appointed as Delivery Integration Partner by National Highways (NH) to deliver the £240 m improvement of the Simister Island M60/M62/M66 interchange (M60 Junction 18), north of Manchester. As the Delivery Integration Partner, Costain will overhaul the busy junction, employing complex traffic management to keep tens of thousands of vehicles moving while construction takes place.
The Works Consist Of:
- A new free flow 'northern loop' link road to take drivers directly from M60 eastbound to M60 southbound without exiting the motorway
- M66 mainline southbound widening and southbound slip road realignment to allow for construction of the northern loop
- A widened connector road from M60 northbound to M60 westbound ā replacing the current single lane with two lanes
- Adding an extra lane in each direction on the M60 Junctions 17 to 18 (increasing from 4 to 5 lanes) while retaining the hard shoulders
- Upgrades to drainage, lighting, motorway technology, signage and signalling
Reporting directly to the Works Manager, you will be responsible for ensuring that the works elements under your control are delivered to the correct quality and in a safe, timely and costāeffective manner. Working collaboratively with the wider project team to deliver successful project outcomes, you will take the lead with front line supervisors from the supply chain to ensure our values are built into their culture and our objectives are achieved. This role will involve night time working due to the nature of the Scheme.
Responsibilities:
- Ensure the coordination of works between all parts of the operational project team.
- Build and develop the team to deliver all aspects of the project requirements; identify training, review performance and ensure delivery of briefings.
- Provide, monitor and control labour, plant and materials to meet the programme.
- Manage supply chain and the direct workforce.
- Ensure high standard of quality on the works to meet the specification 'first time' and minimise rework.
- Assist engineering team with working method and outputs for production of method statements and programme.
- Ensure accurate, legible and up-to-date allocation sheets are recorded and provided at shift close with delivery tickets and plant returns to the engineering and commercial teams.
- Ensure all records for example inspections, works permits and briefings are up to date and in place.
- Carry out regular safety and environmental inspections and implement recommended courses of action as identified from progress monitoring and management inspections.
- Keep a full and accurate daily site diary, including any changes / variations, supply chain attendance and records of workārelated discussions with client / designer / project team.
- Input into programme and budget setting and monitor against progress.
- Working nights to deliver critical works under temporary traffic management.
Essential Knowledge, Skills and Experience:
- Understanding of construction techniques and best practices.
- Knowledge of the construction contract and forms of contract through formal training.
- Computer competence (Email, Word, Excel, Document control system).
- Successful experience at General Foreperson level.
- A positive and proactive attitude.
- Able to work and learn quickly in a fastāpaced, fun and dynamic environment.
- Care about doing a great job and exceeding expectations with the quality of what you do.
Desirable:
- Experience working nights within temporary traffic management.
