As a Graduate Piping Engineer, you will receive development training to become proficient in the design of Process Plant using sophisticated 3D modelling software packages across a range of diverse projects. As your knowledge and experience develops the role will grow to include pipe material selection and pipe stress analysis. Costain is positioning itself to become a key player in the transition to green and sustainable energy solutions. Our projects include Carbon Capture and Hydrogen Generation, Storage and Distribution from Concept, FEED and Detailed Design, through to Construction and Commissioning. This role is based in our Manchester Office - you may be required to visit different sites; a full UK driving licence is essential. The Costain Graduate Development Programme focuses on helping you to grow your personal and leadership skills, alongside business and technical skills you will learn day-to-day on the job and through external training as needed. The programme is delivered over 2 years and will allow you to establish a network of contacts that will help and support you through your first 2 years and beyond. We expect some of our graduates to rotate after a period of 8-12 months to another project/sector of the business to fully understand the depth and breadth of the services offered by Costain. Our line managers are fully supportive of the Graduate Development Programme and will be involved in helping you along the way. In addition to the programme, we offer mentoring and support in every area of work, as well as a structured training programme to enable graduates to work towards achieving Chartership. Graduates may have the opportunity to work on a number of exciting and progressive projects around the UK during the 2-year period, in sectors including energy, nuclear, highways, rail, water, airports and tunnels.
Responsibilities
- Contribute to process equipment location and pipework layouts and delivery of Piping related deliverables on any given project.
- Responsible for the delivery of design work in accordance with Company Procedures.
- Assist and support the Piping Engineering Team for the planning of adequate resources and to monitor and report design progress.
- Liaise and coordinate with other engineering disciplines as required.
- Report back to the Lead Piping Engineer and/or Discipline Manager comments and recommendations for continuous improvements in performance and removal of constraints.
- Be aware of legal and organisational responsibilities regarding Health, Safety Sustainability and Environmental issues with respect to employees, contractors, clients and third parties, ensuring that activities are all managed in accordance with Company policy and client requirements.
Qualifications & Requirements
- Minimum of a Bachelor's degree in a related engineering topic.

- While the role will be predominantly based in our South Manchester Office, mobility to work on secondment to any of our offices or project sites is required - a full UK driving licence is essential.

- IT proficient; able to work accurately and appreciate its importance to the team; a willingness to learn with appropriate instruction.
- Excel at building and maintaining positive relationships; able to thrive in pressured situations.

- Mobility to work on various projects over the 2-year programme throughout the UK.
- Be a team player with excellent communication skills and be proactive in engaging with colleagues and relevant stakeholders.
- Work with paramount consideration of Health, Safety, Environment, Risk Reduction and management; have a client focused approach.
