The Anglian Water Strategic Pipeline Alliance (SPA) project involves the planning, design and construction of approximately 320 km of new strategic, clean-water interconnector pipelines and associated infrastructure across Anglian Water's region. SPA also manages the future interconnector pipelines β an additional 260 km and related infrastructure.
As a Lead Civil Engineer for SPA, you will provide technical direction to engineers in your discipline for clean-water infrastructure (infra) and non-infrastructure (non-infra) projects. You will support design work on numerous schemes, ensuring all designs are fit for purpose and meet current legislation and standards. You will review civil deliverables produced by other civil engineers within SPA and/or our supply chain to ensure correct processes and procedures are followed. In addition, you will monitor workload, liaise with Design Leads and other discipline designers, and lead detailed design of civil pipelines, pump stations and/or break tank design. Other design elements typically associated with a non-infrastructure site may include drainage, highway design, and security fencing. The role will not require frequent office attendance; you will be available for 2β3 days of in-office work over a period of 5β6 weeks.
Responsibilities
- Work closely with team members to ensure project requirements are met.
- Strong technical understanding of civil non-infrastructure design (preferably clean water).
- Take ownership to deliver design and associated activities in your section of the SPA programme of works.
- Coordinate with Temporary Works Design.
- Recognise the significance of design interactions with delivery, procurement and commercial teams.
- Work closely with the client, understanding project requirements and challenge client asset standards/proven designs where applicable.
- Interface with our GI, Utilities and Environmental teams.
- Support engineering teams with pioneering ideas to gain efficiencies.
- Demonstrate key behaviours aligned with SPA values: Collaboration, Integrity, Agility, Leadership, Learning, Open and Honest, Caring.
- Mentor graduate and junior engineers to develop their technical knowledge and understanding.
- Understand health, safety and environmental issues of the scheme design and deliver mitigation to protect people, the workplace and the environment.
Knowledge, Skills and Experience
- Experience working in multidisciplinary teams and a proven track record in designing a section of works.
- Experience with design elements typical of non-infrastructure sites, such as drainage and highway design.
Qualifications
- Civil engineering degree or equivalent.
- Chartered in engineering or equivalent background.
- UK driving licence.
