The role will oversee and be responsible for generating commercially compelling concept designs, through to full engineering Construction information packages aligned to meet our clients' requirements. The role is key to the growth and delivery plans of our business. It will report to the operations director and will manage a team of technical experts providing engineering and design services across the group. This role will work closely with the group chief engineer who has overall responsibility for strategic engineering leadership across the Group. The role will align with our UK client focus strategy and therefore the working structure will be flexible to suit the needs of our clients and your personal circumstances.
RESPONSIBILITIES
- Lead, develop, coach and mentor team members.
- Ownership of engineering growth including recruitment, retention and people leadership as well as working with internal support functions to achieve these goals.
- Require forward strategic thinking and insight, to ensure that we are market leaders when it comes to new technologies (and concepts to meet the difficulties of the transition to a net zero carbon world); this will require collaboration with the wider Group.
- Lead the process of mechanical, EC&I, Front End and project engineering teams, working in collaboration with the business development, work winning, project delivery and commercial teams, generating commercially compelling concept designs, through to full engineering Construction information packages aligned to meet our clients' requirements.
- Oversee and provide in-depth evaluation of key project development metrics ensuring commercial and technical content meets the customer and projects requirements.
- Build relationships with customers to understand, manage and predict their requirements as well as identifying and building strong relationships with design partners.
- Responsible for the engineering design & development budgets.
- Manage the design output of agreed design activity programmes to time, cost, quality, and safety targets, maintaining a zero-defects culture.
- Provide advice and guidance on Principle Designer duties, responsibilities, and appointments where necessary.
ESSENTIAL KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND EXPERIENCE
- Experienced in establishing and growing engineering design teams.
- Ideally experienced in delivering engineering design and overall engineering on major infrastructure programmes/projects.
- Highly connected and has a proven track record of providing engineering design services in one or more of our key markets (Energy, Nuclear Water, Defence).
- Exemplar leader with clear communication and influencing skills with a focus on leading, mentoring and developing people.
- Highly experienced customer-facing capability with an ability to identify opportunities and secure work through relationships.
- Must be commercially aware with a good knowledge of various forms of contracts.
- Able to balance fee earning and non-fee earning work against agreed utilisation and budget targets for self and entire team.
QUALIFICATIONS
- Chartered Engineer (ICE, iMechE, iStructE, IET, CIOB, CIHT, other).
