As a Graduate Civil Engineer you will be responsible for a key element of work on a project, taking a significant role in technical delivery as well as managing aspects of time, cost and quality. You will acquire technical, leadership and project management skills and experience.
About the Project
Costain is the Major Programme Partner (MPP) and the Asset Renewal Partner (ARP) for Terminals 1 and 2, two of six major programmes of work that Heathrow has committed to deliver within the H7 quinquennium. Within the MPP framework, Costain is the Principal Contractor and Principal Designer for the T2 Baggage Programme (T2BP), which is a £700m+ complex baggage and infrastructure programme.
Airside Pass
Please note that this role will work within the aviation sector and you will be required to obtain an airside pass. To satisfy the requirements, you will need to provide 5 years references and complete a criminal reference check.
Graduate Development Programme
The programme will focus on helping you to grow your personal and leadership skills, alongside business and, of course, the technical skills you will learn day-to-day on the job. The programme is delivered in a variety of formats throughout the 2 years and will allow you to establish a network of contacts that will help and support you through your first 2 years and beyond. We expect some of our graduates to rotate after a period of 8-12 months to another project/sector of the business to fully understand the depth and breadth of the services offered by the company. Our line managers are fully supportive of the Graduate Development Programme and will be involved in helping you along the way.
In addition to the programme, we offer mentoring and support in every area of work, as well as a structured training programme to enable graduates to work towards achieving Chartership. Graduates may have the opportunity to work on a number of exciting and progressive projects around the UK during the 2-year period, in sectors including nuclear, highways, rail, water, airports and tunnels.
Responsibilities
- Management of site operations, to ensure safety, quality, cost effectiveness, timely production and customer satisfaction
- Planning and sequencing of operations, including writing method statements and risk assessments, and procuring sub-contractor, labour, plant and material resources
- Briefing teams
- Implementing operational quality control including setting out and QA processes

- Full engagement with the Costain professional development scheme, to become qualified in 3 – 4 year period

- Work experience relevant to the engineering sector

Qualifications
You will have or expected to achieve a minimum 2:1 in a Civil Engineering degree accredited by the ICE. To enable us to fully assess your application, please ensure your application includes details of your educational qualifications at both degree and A Level; university course modules and projects undertaken. Please note that if you are invited to interview, we will require you to produce your passport and/or right to work documentation. As some of our project sites are based in remote locations, it is worth noting that you will be required to have the ability to travel to site.
