Reporting to the Senior Project Manager, the Tunnel Systems (TS) delivery engineer will play a key role within a team responsible for the development of the design and delivery for the in-tunnel mechanical and electrical systems. The team will also be responsible for the TS interface with SCADA. The TS delivery engineer will support product selection to ensure that the products are selected that enable efficient installation, testing & commissioning and maintenance of the system. The role will include liaison and integration with the Rail Systems teams to establish the most effective and efficient TS design to support the ease of installation, testing and commissioning. The design will focus on maximising offsite manufacturing opportunities and minimising risk to the commissioning phase and ensure that the systems can be operated and maintained in line with the requirements. The TS delivery engineer will be responsible for the development of an optimised programme which seeks to implement modern methods of construction and production thinking. The development of these ideas will be through the Initial Value Management (IVM) phase of the Contract and will support the development of an integrated programme within the Rail Systems Alliance.
Responsibilities
- Develop and implement the TS design and delivery strategy.
- Identification, development and implementation of opportunities and efficiencies using modern methods of construction such as DfMA, Modularisation and Automation.
- Liaise with other project functions such as Quality, Technical Assurance, Health & Safety, Sustainability and Social Value.
- Ensure that the processes are fully understood within the Subcontracting delivery teams.
- Work with the Costain+ TVS, open route and SCADA delivery team to identify best for project efficiencies.
- Input into the procurement strategy, supporting the procurement process in development of the sub-contractors works information.
- Ensure client and internal reporting is in line with the Contract requirements and the project KPIs.
- Ensure timely escalation of issues to prevent significant impact to the project.
- Development of the Tunnel Systems programme including key interfaces.
- Ensure the works are safely delivered on time and budget with a right first-time quality approach.
- Works are progressively assured within the delivery area.
- Contribute to the management of temporary works requirements, ensuring the process is adhered to with the Costain+ temporary works team for the delivery area.
- Ensure the interfaces with relevant stakeholders are identified and managed.
Essential Knowledge, Skills, and Experience
- Experience in a similar level role, able to demonstrate experience within an M&E package of works inclusive of procurement, design, construction, testing, commissioning and handover.
- Strong communication and IT skills.
- Recent relevant experience on M&E systems Contracts, preferably in a rail environment.
Desirable
- Experience of Early Contractor Involvement models and NEC forms of contract.
- Knowledge of industry regulations for design, construction and testing and commissioning of building services (e.g. BS 7671 and Building Regulations).
- Expert knowledge of products, construction details and relevant rules, regulations and quality standards.
- Experience of a self-assurance contract environment.
Qualifications
- A professional qualification or degree (or equivalent) in Mechanical or Electrical Engineering or a related subject.
