As part of this mission, the Energy business helps customers transition to clean energy and improve the efficiency, sustainability, and resilience of existing infrastructure through engineering, construction, and digital solutions. We are currently looking for an experienced Senior Commercial Manager to join our Energy team. In this role you will play a key part in the commercial management of major infrastructure projects, ensuring optimal contract recovery, robust financial management, and compliance with company procedures.
Responsibilities
- The Senior Commercial Manager will ensure commercial delivery in line with the company’s objectives, with preferred experience in electricity transmission and distribution projects.
- Providing commercial input at the work‑winning stage.
- Overall responsibility for commercial resourcing of project teams.
- Management of commercial personnel responsible for the following activities:
- Main contract management and administration
- Supply chain management, including contract administration
- Commercial document control
- Cost capture and control, including completion of CLRs
- Commercial reporting
- Planning and programme management
- Responsible for cash management.
- Liaison and negotiation with the customer’s commercial or project team.
- Establishing and maintaining productive relationships with internal and external stakeholders.
- Ensuring valuations and reports are prepared and issued on time.
- Ensuring compliance with company procedures and contract requirements.
- Maintaining appropriate commercial records and resolving contractual issues.
- Providing guidance and support to the commercial team and developing their skills.
- Overseeing recruitment of commercial personnel in line with project needs.
- Providing commercial advice to the contract leader and sector management team.
- Ensuring a consistent approach to commercial issues across the sector.
- Managing and reporting on insurances relevant to the project.
- Reviewing value management and advising on risk management.
- Understanding health and safety regulations and reporting risks to the contract leader or project manager.
Qualifications
- Desirable: 7 years post‑graduate commercial experience in construction with a demonstrable track record.
- Full membership of RICS or CICES (or working towards).
- Demonstrable financial and commercial acumen.
- Experience with National Grid or high‑voltage transmission projects.
- Practical, logical, methodical approach to work.
- Creative, strategic, and innovative problem‑solving skills.
- Extensive knowledge of office management systems, including document control.
- Proficient in technical minute‑taking and preparing payment certificates, interim financial reports, and close‑out reports.
- Proficient in drafting contractual correspondence and facilitating collaborative solutions.
- Proficient in developing and implementing procurement and contract strategies.
- Proven negotiation and team‑working skills, with the ability to motivate, develop, and lead teams.
- Strong analytical skills.
- Demonstrable legal, contractual, and construction knowledge.
- Proficient in implementing and delivering strategic objectives and change programmes.
- Confidence and ability to assert influence.
