As a highways maintenance operative, you will carry out all aspects of highway maintenance across the Area 14 Network under the National Highways Maintenance & Response Contract, covering the A1(M)/A168 junction near Ripon in the south to Barnard Castle on the A66 and Haltwhistle on the A69 in the west, extending to the coast in the east. You will be part of a team of 14 operatives and a wider team of approximately 60 persons delivering essential services to the road network across the North East.
Responsibilities
- Work safely, observing all protocols and requirements to assure your safety, that of your team and the road users at all times.
- Be flexible and versatile conducting or supporting the delivery of various maintenance works across the motorway and trunk roads of the north-east, such as but not limited to:
- Small drainage repairs, safety fence repairs, kerb and flag laying.
- Grass cutting, gully emptying and routine tidying of depots.
- Minor surfacing.
- Post and sign replacements.
- Winter maintenance during the Winter Maintenance period.
- Maintenance and Response Team duties as and when required.
- Small element of traffic management where competencies and training permit.
Qualifications
- CSCS (Construction Skills Certification Scheme) card (essential).
- Class 2 HGV licence (desirable).
- First aid at work (desirable).
