Due to continued growth in our Water sector, we are recruiting for Electrical Estimators to join our rapidly growing team.
This is a home-based role with occasional travel as required.
Costain have won extensive work across the water sector this year to support the AMP 8 investment cycle. We have been appointed by Northumbrian Water to the Living Water Enterprise to help shape and deliver its strategic infrastructure upgrade programme and by United Utilities as one of 7 partners to deliver high value projects between 2025 – 2030.
The estimating function within the division is growing to facilitate the increased volume of works being forecast over the next 5 years, with projects varying from £5m to over £250m in value, covering both infrastructure and non-infrastructure assets on water and wastewater sites.
The Electrical Estimator will work closely with the Senior Estimator, reviewing the Project Content Documents (PCD) and proposed scope of works to assist in preparation of Bottom-up-estimates for the M&E elements of the schemes along with a Top-Down review from cost curves and schedules of rates to assist in negotiation of the proposed Target Price.
Responsibilities
- Preparation of the Electrical Estimate for each project
- Preparation of the detailed scope from drawings, specifications and a PCD that details the outline scope
- Identify any errors/omissions from the scope within the PCD
- Prepare abstract of material and sub-contract requirements for sourcing and pricing
- Technical and commercial appraisal of material and subcontractor quotations to ensure full coverage of the scope is priced
- Preparation of analytical estimates including the detailed appraisal of the electrical packages and attendances required
- Contribute to the identification of risk and pricing of risks throughout the bid
- Attend site visits during the tender period
- Support the preparation of a “Tender Book” to collate and present the electrical estimate
- Prepare Top-Down-Estimate using the Framework agreed schedules of rates and cost curves for benchmarking as part of the review process
Qualifications
- Formally qualified in an electrical related discipline
- Previous experience working as an Estimator for a major contractor
- Experience of pricing medium to large value new works or capital maintenance works
- Customer focused, open and honest, safe and environmentally aware
- Team Player
- Commercially aware with a knowledge of the various model Forms of Contract
- Technical understanding of Waste and Clean water process solutions (preferred)
- Numerate, accurate and self-checking
- Knowledge of CCS ‘Candy’ Estimating system would be an advantage albeit training will be given
- Full driving licence
