Costain are working with Thames Water on a variety of water and wastewater projects and have fantastic opportunities for individuals to join our growing AMP8 delivery team, working predominantly across the Thames Valley and Thames South regions. There is a mix of projects ranging from smaller capital maintenance to large civil new build schemes.
The primary purpose of an Environmental Manager is to lead the Contract Environmental functions, provide Environmental solutions and enable the Contract Leadership / Operational Teams to implement the Group SHE Management System. To build and maintain relationships with all stakeholders, whilst providing an independent and objective view of Environmental Performance on the Contract.

RESPONSIBILITIES- Develop and provide line management to direct reports and liaise with wider SHE Team.
- Support and influence Contract Leadership Team, Clients and Stakeholders in compliance with the SHE/Environmental Management System and Framework/Programme Performance, identifying risks and ensuring mitigation is in place and effective.
- Support the contract team in applying for and managing compliance with environmental permits and consents.
- Liaise with and manage relationships with the environmental Regulator (EA, Local authority etc).
- Ensure delivery of training and coaching, by competent individuals, to allow the contract team to successfully implement the SHE Management System.
- Be actively involved in the appointment and ongoing assessment of the Contracts Supply Chain Contractors.
- Actively support the delivery of the annual Contract and Group SHE Objectives including carbon reduction, BNG and water usage.
- Develop & implement a Contract Environmental Assurance programme to ensure compliance with company and statutory requirements.
- Ensure all unplanned events and assurance findings are categorised, investigated and lessons are shared in accordance with the SHE Management System.
- Timely reporting, analysis and use of Environmental data to support and influence the Contract Leadership Team and where required develop and implement data-based improvement plans.
- Environmental related experience.
- Environmental permitting experience.
- Relevant Degree or equivalent (NVQ Level 6).
- Extensive relevant Environmental experience in relevant industry and experience of managing and training others.
- Variety of contract / sector requiring different skills / knowledge.
- Environmental Degree.
- Institute of Leadership and Management Level 5 Line Managers tool kit or equivalent.
- Commercial Awareness Programme/Project management.
- Specialist environmental courses- e.g. noise measurement, waste, contaminated land, CL:AIRE DOWCOP etc.
