Job Description

The role of Apprentice Quantity Surveyor is to support the more senior commercial staff in the administration of costs and contracts relating to projects. The role may involve all aspects of work from the initial tender to final account and close out, seeking to minimise the costs and enhance value for money whilst achieving the required standards and quality. This role will work under the close direction and supervision of a more senior Quantity Surveyor.

About the project

Costain has been chosen to work with URENCO as their Programme Delivery Partner (PDP) to deliver new and upgraded infrastructure. The framework includes at least 40 contracts over three years, providing uranium enrichment services for civil nuclear power stations in the UK and globally. Costain\’s role is to develop the upgrade plan and deliver contracts safely, on time, and within budget.

Security clearance

Some roles may require obtaining and maintaining security clearance at least at Security Check level. Applicants must have been UK residents for at least 5 years and pass vetting processes.

Responsibilities

  1. Develop understanding of the built environment.
  2. Assist in preparing enquiries, analysing tenders, negotiating, and administering accounts.
  3. Assist with payment applications, certificates, and invoice assessments.
  4. Manage change and risk communication per contract.
  5. Report on project budgets and costs.
  6. Record-keeping, including site records and meeting documentation.
  7. Undertake studies to obtain relevant qualifications.
  8. Understand health and safety regulations and report risks.

About You

Essential:

  • Proactive in self-development and pursuing professional qualifications.
  • Effective communication skills.
  • Ability to work in teams.
  • Understanding of company policies, procedures, and regulations.

Qualifications

Essential:

  • Five GCSEs grades A*-C, including maths and English.

Desirable:

  • Working towards an RICS/CICES accredited degree or similar qualification.
