Job Purpose Summary: The Technical Project Leader is responsible for leading innovative medical device development projects, from concept through to commercialisation. This includes coordinating and directing the technical elements of product development, utilising subject matter experts as appropriate, and applying project management principles to maintain control over scope, plans, budgets, risks, and resources. They have strong communication skills to maintain stakeholder engagement, ensure alignment with business objectives, and compliance with quality and regulatory standards.
What You Will Do:
- Project Planning and Timeline Control: Develops and maintains detailed project plans and consistently achieves milestones on time. Uses project management tools (such as Gantt charts and software packages like Smartsheet/MS Project) to track deliverables, dependencies, and overall progress. Keeps projects on track with timely communication and transparency regarding any emerging changes or delays.
- Communication and Stakeholder Engagement: Manages communication with project teams, internal stakeholders, senior leadership, and external partners. Provides clear and concise progress updates, maintains project dashboards, and facilitates decision-making forums and reviews. Promotes visibility, alignment, and confidence in project direction and outcomes.
- Risk and Budget Control: Identifies, assesses, and mitigates project risks while creating and managing project budgets. Maintains risk registers, implements mitigation plans, and monitors expenditures (OPEX & CAPEX spend). Minimises project uncertainty and ensures financial control.
- Quality, Regulatory, and Compliance Oversight: Coordinates project activities to ensure compliance with relevant medical device quality and regulatory requirements (e.g. ISO 13485). Follows all internal Quality Management System procedures and integrates design control, good documentation practice, and regulatory input at each phase of the project. Ensures that materials and medical devices are safe, effective, and compliant with international standards.
- Continuous Improvement and Team Development: Supports continuous process improvements throughout the Project Governance Process. Regularly evaluates project performance, including Lessons Learnt workshops, and suggests updates to tools and templates. Builds stronger project management capability within Corza and fosters a culture of continuous improvement.
What You Will Need:
- Critical Knowledge: Understanding of project management methodologies, tools, and frameworks; experience of budgeting, cost control, and resource allocation within technical projects; technical foundation in engineering or science, with excellent analytical skills; understanding of product development lifecycle, ideally within medical devices or a similar regulated industry; familiarity working within quality management systems, risk management, and good documentation practices.
- Core Competencies: Leadership and collaboration; communication and stakeholder engagement; time management; risk and problem-solving; analytical and decision-making skills.
- Technical / PC Skills: Project management software: Smartsheet, MS Project or equivalent; office productivity tools: Excel (advanced), PowerPoint, Word, Teams, Outlook; data analysis and reporting.
- Education and Experience: Engineering or scientific degree in relevant field; formal Project Management qualification (PMP, PRINCE2 Practitioner or equivalent) advantageous; Agile or Scrum Master qualification advantageous; 2+ years’ managing technical projects, ideally in medical devices or similar regulated industries; experience delivering New Product Development/Introduction projects through a stage-gate process.
