Cory operates the Barking site where we are in the process of developing a brand-new Waste Transfer Station facility due to open in early 2026, in addition to its existing Transfer Stations operated on behalf of the Western Riverside Waste Authority (Smugglers Way and Cringle Dock), City of London (Walbrook Wharf) and Tower Hamlets (Northumberland Wharf).
We are currently recruiting for a Senior Operative to add to the team at Barking. This is a key role supporting the Site Management Team to ensure the efficient and effective control of operations and resources at the Transfer Station. You will play a vital part in ensuring waste transfer, acceptance, and disposal activities are compliant with statutory legislation and company requirements.
Key elements of the role:
The successful candidate will:

Report directly to the Management Team and assist in the efficient operation and resource management of the Transfer Station

Managing a team of Operatives to ensure effective service delivery

Work with Management Team regarding logistical requirements, e.g. barges required

Ensure compliance with health, safety, environmental, and waste legislation

Control the process and movement of waste, including acceptance criteria and documentation

Operate and maintain plant and equipment, ensuring all safety checks and procedures are followed

Communicate effectively within the team and with contractors, customers, and management

Complete all required paperwork accurately and on time
-
Carry out any other reasonable duties as required by the business
Shift Pattern: The successful candidate will be required to work on a 24-hour shift rota, including scheduled Saturday and Sunday working, averaging approximately 42 hours per week. During the initial training period and until the new Transfer Station is operational, you will be required to work on day shift.
The individual we are looking for will be able to demonstrate the following knowledge, skills, and experience:

Previous experience working in a waste transfer/processing facility (desirable)

Supervisory or team-leading qualification (desirable)

Previous experience in training other team members (train the trainer)

IOSH Supervising/Managing Safely (desirable)

Ability to operate plant and equipment (training provided if required)

Proven ability to work at height

Good communication, problem-solving, and organisational skills

Flexible approach and willingness to work additional hours or weekends as required

IT skills (Microsoft Office)

Driving licence (desirable)

Commitment to personal development and maintaining the company’s management systems
